Content Discovery: Navigate Search Results In-Context with Quicko Search

Content Discovery: Navigate Search Results In-Context with Quicko Search | Serendipi.ty | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Quicko is a new search engine which displays search results with individual, text-based information boxes a-la-Pinterest, and then allows to navigate them by providing a navigation top bar, which provides easy access to all results while maintaining the browsing task in context with the just-completed search action.

The authors behind Quicko have written: "We were fed up, the way search engines currently presents search results. it is so confusing to find what you are looking for and then you have to open a lot of windows which you think are closer to what you are looking for. So we came up with this idea that there should be only one single page from where you can navigate between all or selected results."

Free to use.

P.S.: Quicko will not open PDFs or Flash animations and other content

which is set not to be opened in an iframe, but the team is currently working on these issues.

News Discovery: Best RSS Feed Readers Apps for iPad-iPhone Based Journalists and Curators

News Discovery: Best RSS Feed Readers Apps for iPad-iPhone Based Journalists and Curators | Serendipi.ty | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are looking for the best alternative options when it comes to monitor, read, search and organize your preferred RSS feeds via your iPhone or iPad, this newly updated collection from Appadvice.com has probably everything you need and more.

From its introduction: "...When viewed as a whole, the differences between RSS Readers on the iPad aren’t that huge, simply because they all display content from an RSS feed source and many use a similar two column layout (feeds on one side, articles on the other).

The major differences can be seen in the rising importance of “social” RSS readers, or apps that take an active role in finding RSS feeds for you to read by leveraging your Internet presence or expressed interests.

Most of the rest of the RSS apps require a user to have a Google Reader account to pull feeds from, meaning that they mainly differ in their presentation and implementation of your Google Reader feeds. The choice of RSS reader may be a personal one, but there are a few standout apps in the genre you should be aware of before you decide."

Resourceful. Useful. Comprehensive. 8/10

Curate All of Your Social Media Content and Integrate It in Your Website with Postano

Curate All of Your Social Media Content and Integrate It in Your Website with Postano | Serendipi.ty | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Postano is a social media content aggregation and curation platform that can be integrated in your web site or Facebook page.

Through its internal dashboard it can be set to agregate coming from any of your social media channels. From Wordpress or Tumblr blogs to Facebook Pages, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest accounts, Postano offers a comprehensive array of social media sources to tap into. Additionally you can add any RSS feeds that may be relevant to you.

Postano allows you to pick and select which content you want to publish and how you want to it look and appear. Your curated channel can be finally integrated as a full embed in your website and/or added as a tab to your Facebook page.

One great key feature available as a WordPress plugin but also usable with any other publishing platform allows for all of the content and links "embedded" in your site via POstano to be also fully indexed by standard search engines.

How To Integrate and Publish Curated RSS Feeds On Your WordPress Blog

How To Integrate and Publish Curated RSS Feeds On Your WordPress Blog | Serendipi.ty | Scoop.it

Robin Good: For content curators who own or manage a WordPress-based website here is a great tutorial on how RSS feeds can be integrated and published directly (parsed) on any given web page.

Authored by Vladislav Davidzon this excellent tutorial requires some basic technical knowledge on how to operate WordPress variables and functions and it provides precise guidance on how to:

- Utilize the Built-in Parsing Function to Pull RSS Feeds in and Turn their XML code into Content

- Divide Content into the Right Number of Columns for your Website’s Design

- Create a Friendly Display of RSS Content Using WordPress Loop Variables

From the tutorial: "Included only since version 2.7 of the WordPress software, the ability to parse RSS feeds as content and include that information into a template file is relatively new and its parameters are largely unknown even among the more advanced members of the WordPress development community at large.

Luckily, these parameters are easy to learn and customize, and they can turn a simple RSS feed into a great source of extra content and discussion on already-busy WordPress blogs.

Not only can RSS feeds be parsed by WordPress, but they can also be split up into columns and tabs.

This allows for feeds to actually be used as the primary source of content on some WordPress blogs, especially those that consider themselves a mere aggregator of outside content rather than a producer of unique news, reviews, or commentary on any topic."

Very useful. 9/10

Oui, terrible...

Curated Topic Pages Are The Next Big Thing in Content Publishing

Curated Topic Pages Are The Next Big Thing in Content Publishing | Serendipi.ty | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Chronological and time-bound sequences have been the overwhelming approach to organize content on the web, just like newspapers had been doing for a long time. Look at blogs, Facebook and Twitter to see how pervasive this type of chronological organization has become.

But as more content becomes available more rapidly, chronological organization doesn't work anymore.

What we need is the option to navigate, quality content, through topic-based structures, maps and collections, where time is only one among other factors helping me slice and dice what I want to see.

"There's simply too much content to consume nowadays, so the great challenge of online publishing is to organize it better. Topic pages are the solution."

From the original article: "The time for topic pages has come.

Chronological and real-time consumption of content just doesn't work anymore.

It's time for topic pages to add a layer of organization on top."

Right on track. 8/10
