Personalized search? Both Google and Bing will tell you that it provides better results. But two-thirds say they don’t care. They view personalized search as a “bad thing,” a new survey finds. Nearly three-quarters also view gathering data to personalize results to be a privacy invasion.The findings come out of a survey from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Around 2,000 adults in the US were questioned between January 20 and February 19 of this year as part of a wide-ranging poll about search engine use, though fewer may have answered particular questions.

The WordPress Admin Bar, first introduced in version 3.1, debuted to mixed reactions. A Google search for “wordpress admin bar” returns multiple articles about how to disable or remove it. Version 3.2 of WordPress introduced new features and functionality, and version 3.3 has not only further enhanced it but integrated the header of the admin section into the bar itself. Since this feature is not going anywhere and it figures largely in WordPress’ plan to implement front-end editing, I think we would all benefit from looking at where its features come from and how best to make this sometimes controversial feature work for us.

A new Google+/+1 feature has been spotted in the wild that further blends organic results with social  information. Early today State of Search and charliesaidthat noticed a thank you link on an organic listing next to the Google+ users who +1′ed a result. If logged in as a Google+ user we could get this functionality to appear sporadically on a range of search terms. In order for the “Thank” link to show, the link in the results had to be +1′ed from a circled user. This functionality is currently only showing intermittently at the moment. A Google rep did not comment further on this feature when asked for more information.
