Building a Technical SEO Process

Building a Technical SEO Process | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
One of the biggest challenges many of my clients face is building the right  SEO processes in place, so that any problems are quickly accounted for before they lead to bigger issues.

One of the biggest challenges many of my clients face is building the right SEO processes in place, so that any problems are quickly accounted for before they lead to bigger issues. Below are three things you should consider when trying to create a more streamlined process for making sure the technical foundation of the site is solid. Though none are considered "quick" or necessarily easy wins and can initially take a significant amount of time, ultimately in the long-run, they will help make monitoring the SEO on your site more efficient. This means less time spent identifying and fixing site issues and more time focusing on other aspects of SEO, like linkbuilding, developing a content strategy, etc... Overtime, the impact this will have on your site can result in high rewards.

Pinterest the Referral Giant: New Site Driving More Traffic than Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn Combined [INFOGRAPHIC] | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
Pinterest, which allows people to collect and “pin” photos to a “virtual pinboard,” has rapidly grown from 400,000 users last year to over 4.9 million users today. Although Pinterest remains invitation only, Quantcast data is suggesting that the social network/blogging platform is now generating over 15 billion page views each month. Pinterest’s explosive growth exponentially increased the traffic they refer from only 0.17% of referral traffic in July of last year to 3.6% of referral traffic in January.

Although the Shareaholic report only shows ten referral sources out of hundreds of thousands of sites, it provides valuable insight regarding the top referral sites and where marketing professionals should be investing time and resources.

ike most well-designed things, the magic of an iPad app comes from a union of usefulness, usability and meaning. Games aside, the app must be useful by solving a problem that people actually have through the right set of functionality at the right time. It must be easy to use and, just as importantly, easy to get started using, without a lot of pesky setup and learning steps. And it must hold meaning for the user through visual beauty, an emotional connection, personal insights, etc. In this article, we won’t outline the entire design process for creating an iPad app, but we will explore 10 of the key things to think about when designing your app (and planning the design process).

Now Test Your Sitemaps Before Submitting Them To Google

Now Test Your Sitemaps Before Submitting Them To Google | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
Google has quietly added a feature to Google Webmaster Tools that allows you to test your sitemap files prior to submitting them to Google.

Google’s Pierre Far confirmed that this is indeed a brand new feature built to help webmasters debug their sitemap files prior to submitting them. One of the most common complaints about Google Sitemap files is that Webmaster would create them but not be able to know right away if they were valid. Now, Webmasters can create the sitemaps and test them in Google Webmaster Tools prior to submitting them to Google.

To test the sitemap files, simply login to Google Webmaster Tools, click on Site Configuration and then on Sitemaps. At the top right, there is an “Add/Test Sitemap” button.

Why Your Business Needs to Be on Google+ Now

Why Your Business Needs to Be on Google+ Now | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
Why Google+? The quality and corresponding engagement around your search engine visibility stands to either noticeably improve or gradually decline. Here are some recommendations on what you to do with your Google+ Pages for businesses and brands.

“Sweet, Google’s rolling out its own improved version of Facebook. Wait, it doesn’t look like there’s anything going on for businesses with this. Wow, not many clicking on the +1 buttons. Hmmm, none of the cool kids are playing much here – guess we’ll wait and see if this thing grows legs.”

Today, 90 million users later, wait mode is over. Google+ is running on fresh legs - and beckoning us to join while the echo from the starting gun can still be heard.

Jury’s still out, you say? Don’t really want to hear it, as you’ve hit a good stride with other social media activities you must manage? If this aligns at all with your thinking, then now is the time to pretend you have been a bad salesman, and I am Alec Baldwin, who has been sent on a mission of mercy to help set you straight.

Google's Hidden Feature: Replacing Your Memory

Google's Hidden Feature: Replacing Your Memory | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
Professors at Columbia, Harvard and the University of Wisconsin-Madison found if subjects thought they could search for information later on sites like Google, they didn’t bother to remember it. Google is great for looking up words, finding movie times or perusing recipes, but recent research out of Columbia University shows our dependence on Internet search may be hurting our memory.

The Internet has replaced our brain’s ability to remember information we could easily search for online, a study led by neuroscientist Betsy Sparrow shows. While we heavy Internet users remember where to search for information, we have forgotten information itself.

Just as computers use external hard drives to store information, our brains use the Internet as a back up. Many of us are rarely without an Internet connection, meaning we can rely on the memory of where we read something online. As a result, we often forget information we don’t think we will need again.
