Top 10 WordPress Plugins for 2012

Top 10 WordPress Plugins for 2012 | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
With 22,000+ WordPress plugins to choose from which ones are right for you? Chris Cree shares his top 10 list for 2012 and why he selected each plugin.
Bonnie Burns's insight:

Plugins all add different features so it’s hard to compare them objectively. For some projects one feature may be more important than another. Sometimes a specific feature may not even be wanted or needed on a project.

Therefore this list is simply the plugins that I like personally and found to be the most useful in my client projects over the last year. That leaves tons of room for debate. So if your favorite plugin isn’t in this list, leave a comment. Make your case why I should have included it.

Some of these plugins are pretty popular and you’ll be familiar with them. There may be one or two that are new to you. Most are freely available in the Plugin Directory. But I’m including a couple premium only plugins too.

Tools for Automating Tasks for Google Reconsideration Requests and Profile Cleanup

Tools for Automating Tasks for Google Reconsideration Requests and Profile Cleanup | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it

Tools can eliminate a large portion of the sites from the link review list for your Google Reconsideration Request. First you want to identify all deindexed domain/pages, link networks and spammy sites that the tools will uncover. My usage tells me these are more than accurate enough to warrant their usage in reducing the number of manual reviews you do which is by far the most time consuming part of the job! Some tools are just used to collect links for review.

Using only the Google Webmaster tools list of links is likely not a good idea so you should use as many as you can afford and find. One trick I learned was to change the font color from each so when you merge the lists in excel it is clear where the dupes came from which will aid in identifying sites that were found by numerous tools which again helps in the review process. You can also find links with characteristics that mean they do not need or will need special attention during review or may well be removed immediately for example nofollow and 302ed links pass no juice so… carry on!

Twitter Denies Accounts Can Be Hijacked Via Text Message

Twitter Denies Accounts Can Be Hijacked Via Text Message | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
Twitter says it patched a vulnerability months ago that might allow hackers to spoof users' accounts via text message.

A researcher blew the whistle on a possible hole in Twitter's security this week when he publicly posted about a way hackers could take control of a user's account via SMS text message. Twitter has since responded, saying any vulnerabilities were patched months ago.

The news that Twitter accounts could be spoofed by SMS spread quickly after self-described security consultant Jonathan Rudenberg wrote a blog post explaining the issue. It's easy to send a text message from a fraudulent originating number, he says, allowing anyone who knows your phone number to post to Twitter on your behalf -- and even modify account info -- as long as you have tweeting via text message set up. Although Twitter allows users to set up PIN, that feature isn't available in the U.S.

17 Ways to Get De-indexed by Google

17 Ways to Get De-indexed by Google | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it

In a blink of an eye your website vanishes from Google. Try every variation of your domain — but nothing. You've been de-indexed from Google. That’s a tragic place to be in. All your hard work gone up in smoke, you are effectively invisible to everyone in the world now. This is exactly the spot that iAcquire found themselves in May 2012 when they were caught up in the Dun and Bradstreet link buying scandal. JC Penny, Forbes, and Overstock also found themselves in a similar position (being penalized for link buying, but not necessarily flushed from Google’s index).

The Perfect SEO Tool Package

The Perfect SEO Tool Package | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
We have a Raven SEO Tools account, and in light of their recent announcement that it will no longer provide Google rankings and will completely eliminate its SERP Tracker tool, as well as all data ...
Bonnie Burns's insight:

We went on a quest to find the perfect seo toolset, and when we use the term SEO, we actually mean organic search and social marketing. We’re exluding PPC although no doubt many would love to have PPC management included as well, but it doesn’t fit into our own personal needs when using an SEO tool. Of course, everyone has their own preferences and needs, but in our opinion, certain features should be present in any comprehensive tool if it is going to earn the status of “perfect”. So far, we’ve failed in our quest, although SEOmoz Pro and perhaps even gShift come close, so instead of announcing a “winner”, we’ll instead present our wishlist for the ultimate comprehensive SEO tool, especially for agency use.
