Did you catch Google's recent post on its webmaster blog regarding mobile website infrastructure and search results? I found it really interesting; Google announced changes to their algorithm which will favor sites with best-in-class mobile infrastructure; for once I don't think you'd find an SEO that begrudges the changes they are making.

Based on Google’s Agent Rank patent, we believe that if you begin using Google Authorship, you will end up being given an Author Rank one day. This will effect the visibility of your content, and have an impact on your overall search engine ranking through the Internet giant.

The two most noticeable changes were probably the cover photo for pages and profiles, which has been enlarged greatly, and the redesigned gchat, which Google has rebranded as Google Hangout (to tie in with the existing Google Hangout video chat).

The revised chat layout, which feels a lot more modern than the existing gchat, is also now being slowly rolled out for users to use in Gmail. User profiles in Google Hangout directly link to their Google+ profiles, showing that Google is now, more than ever, invested in creating a cross-promotional platform for all their product offerings.

Brands are excited by this move as they typically see their products pinned frequently and it’s now easier for people to buy products they see in pins.

 

Each platform is unique.  Social media platforms have their own personalities and etiquette; and hence, techniques should be tailored to the platform. To be clear, what this feature means is that the hashtags will be clickable and grouped together on a page.  Each hashtag will have its own unique Facebook URL with a status update box at the top.  This is great news, because it means you can drive traffic to that URL from your site, Blog or other social platforms to engage users and create even more conversation.

Starting Wednesday, hashtags on Facebook will be clickable — much like those on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest — and clicking on them will bring users to feeds of related posts by other users and pages. Users will be able to search for hashtags via Facebook’s search bar, click on hashtags that were shared from other sources, and compose their own posts directly via hashtag feeds and search results.

It will give business owners using Google+ to manage local pages one place to easily manage the pages, share, and access other tools like AdWords Express and Offers. Local Google+ page managers will also have access to improved page insights.

SEO has changed and evolved, it’s much more complex, it’s much more insistent that the efforts and work be high quality and it’s never still, it’s always moving and changing.  But it does exist.  J  The bottom line folks, is that you can call it what you want but you need some form of content addition and optimization and some social activity to grow your site.

Over the years Google has always stated that what others did, in particular, with bad links, can't hurt your sites rankings.
