Both comparisons are skewed by the fact that a year ago some of the news sites were just getting started with Google+ and hadn’t made a lot of posts yet. But it is still interesting to see the differences one year later.

Getting G+ figured out and having tools that will allow you to post your content there are important for moving ahead. Are you posting directly or using an SMMS to post?

I use various tools, from Hootsuite, triberr, also manually. I manage a few G+ accounts - What I've discovered is managing each account individually with a different sign in has kept my sanity. ;)

Google+ allows you to link to all of your social media profiles, sites and Blogs in a neat, organized manner. You can also link to any sites that you regularly contribute to. All of these links are followed links AND you get to select the anchor text (in your bio).

Tip: The more people share your posts, +1 your posts or link to your profile, the more valuable these links become to you. The takeaway here is that you need to network and build connections that will help spread your content.

Have You Seen Your Online Reputation? [Infographic]

The digital revolution has made it increasingly difficult for a brand to maintain control of its online reputation.
Bonnie Burns's insight:

While positive posts can have a great effect on brand image and sales, negative talk can cause serious harm that could damage a brand for the long-term. This is why it’s essential for a brand to constantly monitor its Internet image and do everything possible to ensure a strong online reputation, from keeping customers happy to continually engaging with the social media community and constantly updating content. The following infographic from MDG Advertising takes a deeper look into this.

The posts usually contain some sort of promise, like “if you type ‘MOVE’ into the comments section, watch what happens to the image,” or “if this status gets 100,000 likes, I will run a marathon.” These types of viral posts, benign though they may seem, are actually a form of a Facebook scam called “Like Farming.”

Microsoft recently announced that it had found a malicious browser extension making the rounds on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome that, when downloaded, attempted to hijack users' Facebook profiles.

The Trojan works by first seeing if the user is logged in to Facebook. If so, it tries to get a configuration file from the website in order to take control of a user’s profile. Some of the malware’s actions have so far included posting “15 YEAR-OLD VICTIM OF BULLYING COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER SHOWING HER BREASTS ON FACEBOOK” in Portuguese with a URL link to a fake video, posting promotions in the comments section of posts and pages, like “Get a brand new Celta paying R$13 per day!!”, and sending out messages via Facebook chat, like “The coolest tune at the moment. Could Google+ Play a Role in the Upcoming Penguin Update?

Could Google+ Play a Role in the Upcoming Penguin Update? | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
On Friday morning, Matt Cutts, the person in charge of Google’s webspam team, announced via Twitter that the search engine would be rolling out the next generation, version 2.0, of its Penguin update (originally released in April of last year)....
Bonnie Burns's insight:

Of course, this is all just speculation, and Google is being, and will continue to be, quiet on the subject until the release of the new update, as it always is. I’m just saying, it would be an interesting way for the company to quietly nudge people toward using Google+ more often, although the downside would be the creation of an increasingly insular, exclusive “Google Universe” that may alienate Web professionals and users even more than it already has.

The good news is that the trend of favoring quality content is stronger than ever.

The even better news comes in the form of authority sites. Google is going to be working on coming up with tools to favor people who are running sites that are an authority on some topic - whatever field it may be in.
