How To Write Effective Product Descriptions

How To Write Effective Product Descriptions | SEO Tips, Advice, Help | Scoop.it
SEO for ecommerce sites. Discover how to write effective product descriptions for better rankings and to improve conversions
Bonnie Burns's insight:

Writing product descriptions is important, both to SEO and to your conversion rate. It’s also something that most people find pretty difficult. More often than not, people just use the descriptions provided by the manufacturer.

Google's Newest Little Friend: Hummingbird

Hummingbird, the latest “big thing” from Google was introduced in late September.  What was most striking about the announcement was not the fact that there is a new algorithm, but that it has been...
Bonnie Burns's insight:

For starters, Hummingbird affected 90% of searches worldwide. To put things in perspective, Penguin only impacted about 3% of searches.  Since Hummingbird isn’t designed to weed out spammy sites, even though the number of searches impacted was large; the actual falling out afterwards was minor.

Bonnie Burns's insight:

Speculation is that it will hit within a couple weeks.  The take-away here:  You should have already been working on cleaning up your link profile. If you haven’t done that, now is definitely the time.  You also want to focus on building quality links via sharing quality content through social media.

Ally Greer's curator insight, May 15, 2013 1:03 AM

Some announcements from Google's Matt Cutts on the upcoming changes to Google and how it can help you and your business.

The good news is that the trend of favoring quality content is stronger than ever.

The even better news comes in the form of authority sites. Google is going to be working on coming up with tools to favor people who are running sites that are an authority on some topic - whatever field it may be in.

"The take-away: If you aren’t already providing a lot of high quality content in your area of expertise, now is the time to start."

I'm not going to say that this is a sign for everyone to get curating, but it's totally a sign for everyone to get curating.

Bonnie Burns's insight:

These days there is really no such thing as “a ranking” – let me explain.  One person may perform a search and see you in position 5 and someone else may perform the same search and see you in position 10 and someone else may perform that exact same query and see you in position 2.  So which one is “your ranking”?  The best you can do with that is calculate the average to get a feel for where your page is coming up.
