Visual Content Production is The Future of Content Marketing

Visual Content Production is The Future of Content Marketing | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

"When we think of content, we often think of a compilation of words, words that tell a story relevant to our buyer and connect to our brand. The problem is that our prospects have less time to read these words, even when they tell a well-crafted story that can be useful in their jobs.

Why?"

Because there is just too much of it to find what really satisfies and interests you. That's why visual communication increasingly helps breaking down barriers of shorter attention spans, differentiate it from others and make it more interesting to understand and digest, than reading a buch of paragraphs of text. (Robin Good)

We’re in a state of information overflow and many are looking for a way to dig out. Simultaneously, we have learned to digest information faster – sometimes even at a glance.

This quick consumption of data lets us know the big message and allows us to decide whether or not we need to keep reading. The headline of an article is commonly used to make this decision, but how can we rely on more than a headline to get our point across?

The answer - Visual Content Marketing

Visual content marketing is the utilization of images to engage your prospects through the buying cycle. This can include Infographics, images, charts and graphs, memes, comics, photos, videos, and even visual notetaking. http://bit.ly/Qa2XZ3

This presentation, created with Column Five - http://bit.ly/LooubE , not only explains different types of visual content, but also to give examples to inspire your own visual content creations.

Ground-Proven Rules To Get More People To Read Your Content

Ground-Proven Rules To Get More People To Read Your Content | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Some really valuable and long-tested advice on specific, immediately applicable things you can do to your writing and to the formatting of your content to make sure it looks professional, and it gets more people to read and appreciate it.

The advice contained in this infographic is excellent and I have been using each and every single one of these ten rules for a long time now on MasterNewMedia. If you have not yet started to consider some of this variables, dive into this infographic and start reserving some mental and production space for them too.

Highlights:

A) Impatient searchers

Jakob Nielsen’s seminal web usability study from 1997 showed that 79% of web users scan rather than read. Think about how you use the web. You’re in search of information. And if you don’t find it on the page you’re visiting, you click away and look elsewhere. What can you do to engage your readers so they lean into your content, stay on your pages and interact with your information?

B) Make it snappy

To write successfully for the web, you need to forget some of what you learned in English composition class. Accept that people scan web pages rather than reading them in detail, and work with this reality rather than fighting it.

C) Structure your paragraphs in the inverted pyramid style.

This means stating your conclusion first, then supporting it with the sentences that follow. This helps scanners to move from point to point, and decide where they’d like to dive in deeper.

1. Embrace the line break

There are few easier ways to make your content more readable.

And try writing some paragraphs with one sentence only.

2. Break up your content with compelling subheads

Is there a compelling story? Will they get the gist of your information?

3. Use bulleted lists

4. Use deep captions

Studies have shown that image captions are consistently some of the most-read copy on a page. Try pairing a strong image with a “deep caption.”

Deep captions are two to three sentences long. That’s long enough to intrigue your reader to dig in to your whole article.

5. Add highly relevant links

Internal links back to your own cornerstone content will keep people on your site and reading your best material. External links demonstrate that you’ve researched the topic and want to highlight other experts.

6. Use strategic formatting

Add emphasis to your web copy by bolding important concepts. You reader will be able to scan through and pick out the most important information at a glance. Emphasize the key points so the scanner can quickly pick them out.

7. Harness the power of numbers

Think those numbered list posts are tired? Think again. Numbers are an incredibly effective way to both capture attention and to keep the reader oriented.

8. Check your dual readership path

Does the reader get the gist? Have you pulled out the most interesting and relevant words, the words that will pull your scanner in and turn her into a reader?

Excellent. It works. 9/10

How SEO and "Social" Work Together for Link Building: Social Media Links

How SEO and "Social" Work Together for Link Building: Social Media Links | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

"Social linking most often means using social media channels to promote content that inspires social shares with links.

A Tweet, Facebook status update or Pinterest pin that includes a link to the content being promoted are all examples of social links.

Social shares with links = Social Links.

Here are six questions and answers on the fundamentals of using a social media focused approach for link attraction and acquisition: do you define “social linking”?"

Digital Asset Optimization, DAO SEO

Digital Asset Optimization, DAO SEO | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it
Digital asset optimization (DAO) is becoming a serious consideration among marketers ever since the beginning of blended or universal search. Many are calling it the new SEO. This is because traditional SEO focuses on optimizing text content and DAO expands the net to all types of non-text assets such as images, video, PDFs, podcasts, blogs, RSS, and other type assets. Most of these are social media related.

One way of looking at it is the combining of search engine optimization with social media optimization:

SEO + Social Media Optimization = Digital Asset Optimization

Optimizing for DAO is similar to SEO with the same best practices, but essentially you have each new media type to individually optimize for. With all of the options to choose from, many are overwhelmed and confused at which media type is the best to use. Furthermore, those who do use rich media assets are not optimizing them properly. According to a Forrester Research study, less than 20 percent of marketers insert keywords into file names of their videos on their sites. Even fewer marketers write keyword-rich captions or create online video libraries.

Linee Guida Per Pubblicare Una Rivista Digitale Di Successo

Linee Guida Per Pubblicare Una Rivista Digitale Di Successo | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

Which Social Platform Really Drives the Most Traffic? | Social Media Today

Which Social Platform Really Drives the Most Traffic? | Social Media Today | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

From The Original Article: "Facebook has regained domination for traffic driving over StumbleUpon, in fact, StumbleUpon seems to have dropped off quite dramatically this past year, but despite that fact, it still comes in as the number two traffic driver in social media well ahead of Twitter and edging out both Youtube and Pinterest.

With the tremendous buzz that Pinterest has been generating over the past few months and the fact that it was recently recognized that Pinterest drives up to 4x as much retail buying traffic as Facebook, the fact that StumbleUpon still drives more traffic than Pinterest is a big deal.

Then you look to YouTube, arguably the world's largest search engine, and it comes inbelow StumbleUpon as well, but just a hair ahead of Pinterest for the third place spot in real traffic driving among the major social media".

The Revolution Won't Be Televised; It Will Be Instagrammed | Businesses That Bank on Photographic Storytelling Will Win

The Revolution Won't Be Televised; It Will Be Instagrammed | Businesses That Bank on Photographic Storytelling Will Win | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it
Visual storytelling today is blissfully cliche. Photos are deliberately over animated, over filtered and even over exposed. They ignore all the rules. Just as the proliferation of texting arguably made the written word less formal and YouTube did the same for video, the ubiquity of smartphones has changed the expectations of what's considered "good" photography.

Here are three recommendations to consider when it comes to navigating this new era.

- It's hip to be square. Instagram popularized the notion that square images can be cool. Think in 1:1, not 4:3 ratios.

- Become fluent in digital culture. While animated gifs, cartoon balloons, collages and tilt-shift styling may feel trite, they're the new normal.

- Democratize the creative process. The industry embraced crowdsourced video several years ago. However, advertising photography still feels like it's roped off and treated more as art. Open it up.

SEO for Facebook Pages [Video]

SEO for Facebook Pages [Video] | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

From the original article: "Facebook is probably not the first place you would think to go for SEO advice. However, the social media giant is looking to change that.

With the help of Distilled, an online marketing agency, Facebook launched a new video that provides users tips on how to optimize their Facebook pages.

The video is aimed more at business owners than seasoned SEOs, but it’s the first video Facebook has released providing users with this type of advice for optimizing their Facebook pages for search engines.

The video takes users step-by-step through a number of processes for building an optimized Facebook page with a good name and quality, relevant content. Then it shows you how to get links and likes for your new, awesome page.

The video does tend to focus more on why all of these things are important, rather than on advanced link-building tips. However, for a small business owner just learning about search marketing, it’s a good beginner’s resource".

Conventional SEO Does Not Affect SERPs Anymore: SearchMetrics Reports

Conventional SEO Does Not Affect SERPs Anymore: SearchMetrics Reports | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

From the original article: "Will your SEO still be up to snuff now that social media has taken precedence?

According to a recent study by Searchmetrics, the practice of “conventional SEO” and even the voodoo that they do over in blackhatworld.com doesn’t add up to much effect on the SERPs any longer.

Remember all the olde tyme mantras of the SEO crowd, such as keywords in H1; title character length; word counts; and the rest of the abstract website prerequisites search engine imposed on online marketers for almost two decades? Gone.

Actually it’s even worse as the study found that those factors actually have a negative ranking factor.

Therefore, applying the stratagems previously lauded as the “inside track” to high SERPs are now actually counter-productive to the point where they will diminish your search engine ranking position".

The study found that the sweet spot for what was once called SEO can be located through these five key policies:

1) Social media signals equate with high SERPs

2) Top brands have the advantage

3) Over-advertising is a negative

4) Link quality trumps link quantity

5) Keyword inclusion in the domain still means something

Informative. Rightful. 8/10

The Top Five Reasons Why Your Readers Aren’t Sharing Your Content

The Top Five Reasons Why Your Readers Aren’t Sharing Your Content | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

Sometimes trying to get people to share your content feels like pulling teeth.

If you’re finding that your content isn’t being shared, these are most likely the reasons why:

1. You only talk about yourself

Everyone has been around constant self-promoters before—they aren't fun to talk to. Part of the reason they aren’t interesting is because they don’t involve you in the conversation.

To increase your site’s shareability, start addressing the topics your readers want to learn and talk about. People will then view you as a resource and be more likely to promote you.
*The Golden Rule prevails here: talk about others as much as you would like them to talk about you.

2. You pick topics that aren’t timely

In the age of the 24/7 news cycle, the pressure is always on to write timely content.

People like to share content that is relevant to what’s going on in their community at that moment, not content that was “so two days ago.”

*Use an editorial calendar to help plan out your post schedule and ensure your posts are timely.

3. Your headlines aren’t catchy

You don’t have to have gimmicky headlines, but you need to them to be interesting and relevant enough to capture the small attention span of your audience. Keep your headlines less than eight words to make them punchy and memorable, just like your favorite tweets on Twitter.

*See the criteria for a great headline: It’s exclusive and specific. Keeping your headlines short and sweet will make it much easier for your readers to share your content

4. You write huge blocks of text

Now that everyone is used to reading online, people have tiny attention spans. Most people want to scan your post before reading it so they don’t waste their time reading something that isn't relevant to them.

*Having a few bullet points with multimedia will help your readers take home the main messages and easily share them with others.

5. You don’t make it easy to share

Do you have sharing buttons in an easy-to-use location on your site? Choose the right social media sharing buttons for your audience and place them where your audience can easily see them.

Important things to know about Social Media Optimization

Important things to know about Social Media Optimization | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it
The term SMO was firstly introduced by Rohit Bhargav. He gave some basic rules for conducting SMO and these rules are:
1. Create shareable content
2. Proactively share content
3. Make sharing easy
4. Encourage the mash up
5. Reward engagement

Effect of Social Media on search marketing: Today Social Media have become a vital way of connecting with each other. So we can use these platforms as a marketing tool. We can participate on these sites by respecting the community, building and maintaining a consistent and robust profile (or brand) and engage in the community by commenting, contributing and sharing regularly. These things can increase your network circle at large scale which is considered as a fan club of your service or brand.

Content Curation Tools For Brands

Content Curation Tools For Brands | SEO, SMO: to be visible and viral, or not to be | Scoop.it

Therese Torris researched content curation using mainly two curation tools: one more business-oriented tool, Scoop.it, to monitor four topics (including Content Curation and Mobile Payments included in the Curated Content section of this blog) and one consumer-oriented social curation tool, Pinterest, to curate half a dozen varied topics of personal interest (books, art, shoes, designer handbags.

Here is what she concluded from this research:

1) Content curation does help content discovery.

Curation helped me discover and share content on my favorite topics. Numerous reports show that social content curation à la Pinterest brings traffic to brand sites. Curated content embeds brand content into a rich inbound context of external content.

2) Social content curation fosters customer engagement.

Consumers who curate a brand’s content not only send it traffic, they also bring to the brand and its product a much needed validation. Brands like Whole Foods that participate in social curation on Pinterest increase their customers’ engagement.

3) Corporate curation tools help create a competitive advantage.

In addition to public social curation platforms, brands should use scoop.it or corporate collaborative content curation tools like Curata, CurationSoft or Zemanta to listen to their market, optimize their content and collaborate on their content strategy.

4) But content curation is no panacea for failing content creation.
