In these eight simple steps I will illustrate how offering a present to someone using simple marketing techniques could improve satisfaction and develop future prospects….
- Take your time. Pick up ideas of what the person likes. Listen carefully. Maybe go back to a place that you know they have been before a likes a lot!
- Surprise them. Be discreet. Let them doubt a bit, let them thinking they might not be worth it.
- Don’t forget to personalise the present. Make sure you add a special little touch. For example carve a little word on the present, draw on the card or anything that fits your imagination.
- Packaging is king! Make sure you give it a pimped-up wrap. As they say in Finland: “a present well wrapped… is a present well wrapped”
- Choose the right words! Don’t forget the little message that goes with the present. Give it a slogan and a description. Keep the wording punchy! But don’t outsell yourself or you might upset that person further on down the line.
- Make it theatrical! You have to keep the surprise until the end. Don’t give the present straight away. Fuel their envy of that present throughout the day. Talk about subjects around that topic that will suggest the present discreetly. When they receive it, they will think that it was exactly what they wanted.
- Soon after these surprises have been all found and un-wrapped, make sure you tell them how nice it looks or how much they will enjoy it.
- The most important point is to retain good relationships with them after the present is given. Retain close contact and get to know them better for the next present.
