How to Build a Content Marketing Strategy - SEOmoz

How to Build a Content Marketing Strategy - SEOmoz | SEO | Scoop.it
As successful link building tactics change, companies and clients alike are seeking to understand how certain forms of link building can be translated into long-term content marketing campaigns.

Summary...

Below is the content strategy framework that Adria and I have implemented together for our clients. We've learned that this process isn't a quick win and that our most successful content marketing strategies have relied on dedicating at least 3 months to just research - market research, site audits, content audits, customer surveys, and customer interviews to name just a few.

Step 1: Researching the company

The first step in developing a content strategy framework is understanding the company.

Step 2: Data collection (and lots of it)

I believe in utilizing the data that we have available to make informed decisions. This applies specifically to content; the more we understand about the site and the customers, the more we are able to make informed and strategic decisions to the type(s) of content we want to produce. In order to do this, it's important to gather relevant data.

Step 3: Preparation and assessment

Now that new data has been collected from various channels, it's important to assess/analyze the data that has just been collected and see how it correlates with the data that you already have on-hand. During this stage, it's also critical to take a step back and make sure that the goals for the content have been clearly defined.

Step 4: Prospecting

This phase of the process is identifying individuals/sites who would be interested in the type of content the company will produce and engaging them at multiple points with the goal to develop relationships with key influencers.

Step 5: Create and promote the content

In this step, the "go" is to now create the pieces of content and follow both the internal protocols and sign off processes that were established in step three of the process. Ensure that editorial standards are being followed and assess that the content being created is actually phenomenal.

Step 6: Assess content performance

After the content has been released and promoted, it's time to assess how the content has performed and any other learnings that can be taken away from the process.

One of the options how you can present to your audience is using Google Hangouts. The post explains what has to be done to launch your presentation on GH. Very useful for small online conferences and webinars. This method can be successfully employed in flipped learning.

Reseach Shows Social Media Hugely Important in SEO Ranking [INFOGRAPHIC] | SEO | Scoop.it

Seven of the ten most important factors in SEO ranking now come from social media.

An updated study from Searchmetrics has revealed just how important social media signals are to a strong SEO ranking, with well-positioned URLs almost always having a high number of likes, shares, tweets and +1s.

Searchmetrics have documented their findings in this infographic, which takes a closer look at what well-positioned web pages on Google have in common, and what distinguishes them from pages that are lower-ranked.

Netflix Releases ISP Streaming Rankings For June - Google Fiber, Cablevision Continue to Top Rankings | DSLReports.com

Netflix Releases ISP Streaming Rankings For June - Google Fiber, Cablevision Continue to Top Rankings | DSLReports.com | SEO | Scoop.it

Earlier this year Netflix began ranking the quality of video streaming performance for each of the nation's largest ISPs. HD streams have variable bitrate but can potentially top out at around 4800 kilobits per second, and the data, gleaned from 36 million Netflix members who view over 1 billion hours of TV shows, provides a bird's eye view by ISP of sustained throughput available from a given ISP over time.

Netflix just released their latest ISP rankings for June and by and large they're unchanged, with Google Fiber in the top spot, Cablevision's Optimum Online in the second spot, and various DSL operators continuing to flouder around the bottom half of the rankings. AT&T's U-Verse in particular continues a fairly poor showing, dropping a spot to tenth in the rankings.

ISPs which in the past had historically improved in Netflix performance because of faster speeds, have the last few months found themselves falling because they're not signing up for Netflix's CDN network. As noted earlier this year, Netflix stated they'd start offering users "Super HD" and 3D streams -- if their ISP signed up for Netflix's new Open Connect Content Delivery Network.

As expected many bigger ISPs, most of whom have had neutrality fights with Netflix previously, have not agreed to Netflix's demand for special CDN treatment (AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, Time Warner Cable, Charter, Brighthouse, etc) and are dropping more and more in the Netflix ratings each month.

With Death of AdWords Keyword Tool Near, Google Pushes Users to Keyword Planner - Search Engine Watch

With Death of AdWords Keyword Tool Near, Google Pushes Users to Keyword Planner - Search Engine Watch | SEO | Scoop.it

Key excerpt...

The Google AdWords Keyword Tool has long been in the toolkit of most search engine marketers, regardless of whether they used Google AdWords. In fact, it was one of the first keyword tools available freely to webmasters in order to find keyword suggestions and build keyword list.

But users using this free tool are now seeing a notice stating that in the coming months the external Keyword Tool will no longer be available. Instead, they are steering users to their new Keyword Planner that they launched earlier this year.

The keyword planner is actually a combination of the Keyword Tool plus the Traffic Estimator, so pay per click advertisers on Google can see not only the suggested keywords but traffic estimates at the same time, along with some other relevant data Google includes.

Unfortunately, a lot of the data that we are used to seeing from the Keyword Tool hasn't been integrated into the Keyword Planner, such as the ad share statistics. Google says they are working on adding a new column to give insight into ad impression share data.
