Why You Shouldn't Rely on SEO Alone

Why You Shouldn't Rely on SEO Alone | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

Neil Patel: 'I am here to tell you that SEO is not dead. SEO will never be dead. But SEO isn’t all that matters.

First things first. What do we mean by SEO?

At its core, SEO (search engine optimization) is a set of strategies aimed at making sure your site turns up in the search results when a user types a word or phrase into a search engine.

The problem is, as the way people interact with search engines changes, so do SEO strategies.

Which means this: SEO is constantly changing'

Is SEO Dead?

Is SEO Dead? | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

'Today, people have smartwatches, Fitbits, wirelessly connected earphones, WiFi hotspots built into self-driving automobiles, and virtual worlds that can be augmented with the real world to create an interface straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Some people think this new technology signals the death of SEO, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The reality is that online connectivity is more popular and important than ever.

People still depend on the web for entertainment, information, and the ability to conduct business. As more and more devices and people connect to the Internet to perform more and more searches, SEO isn’t dying, but rather becoming more important each and every day'.

How Long Does It Really Take to Rank at the Top of Google’s Search Results?

How Long Does It Really Take to Rank at the Top of Google’s Search Results? | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
'I recommend link building.

The very word “link building” has a bad reputation.

Why? Because, in the past, it was improperly executed by overeager marketers.

Torah, some people try to sugar coat it or call it something like “reputation building.”

I call it like it is. It’s link building.

And, there’s nothing wrong with building links in the right way!

Obviously, I’m 100% against spammy, black-hat link building, a la 2011.

Because link building is still at the heart of SEO.

After  years of link building, I decided it was worth it to spend the time and resources to answer the question: How long do you have to do link building before you get to the top of the SERPs?

Final verdict: social media does not directly contribute to page rankings; it is not a ranking signal.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t be used to help your SEO strategy. It is as useful as your team is creative. Set up some goals, A/B test some changes or experiments, and see how you can make the most of the relationship between social and SEO.

It starts, of course, with great content. Make sure your content is worth sharing before you start promoting it on social channels. Once it’s really ready, push your team outside the box—just make sure everyone remembers how social media and SEO really do work together, and how they don’t, as you develop strategies.

How to Dominate SEO in 2017: 8 Crucial Rules For Dominating Google's Search Results

How to Dominate SEO in 2017: 8 Crucial Rules For Dominating Google's Search Results | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

'The truth? Most people look at SEO the wrong way. They look at ways to do the least amount of work for the greatest initial return, when in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Obviously SEO is one of the best skills that you can possibly learn, but in order to succeed with it, you need to do the most amount of work for the least initial return. It’s a slow, steady and painful process, but that’s also the nature of the beast.

Simply put, in the beginning, Google doesn’t trust you. If Google doesn’t trust you, you’re not going to rank on those lucrative first-page SERPs.

You’ll be lost in the fray amidst millions of others who’re trying to claw their way to the top. So, the first real guiding principle of SEO is trust.

When you have Google’s trust, you’ll consistently rank highly. When you lack its trust, you’ll be lost in an abysmal sea of low-ranking webpages. And no one wants that'.

Complete guide to keyword research for SEO

'Keywords are the backbone of SEO.

They represent all the phrases which you type into Google search box when surfing the net. Having this in mind, you can quickly establish that SEO is a user-oriented profession.

In fact, expert’s proficiency can be measured by their ability to discover trending keywords and rank for them. In other words, SEOs ability to perform keyword research.

Similarly to any commercial products, there are two main things that should concern us – the strength of our competition and the demand for a certain keyword.

By using SEO terminology, we can say that two main factors of keyword research are:

- Search Volume (number of monthly searches)
- Keyword Difficulty (competitiveness of a keyword).

27 SEO Essentials for Every Long-Form Blog Post

27 SEO Essentials for Every Long-Form Blog Post | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

'As I’ve learned from years of blogging, long-form content is one of the best methods of making your site stand out from everyone else’s.

Of course, your content can’t just be long. It also has to be deep. If you can nail it, you’ll drive a ton of traffic and gain thousands of followers.

A lot of people think the formula is simple.

Yes, the formula is simple, but it doesn’t work automatically just because you have a long article. I’ve seen lots of people write super long, in-depth articles, but they’re not getting the kind of traffic they want.

That’s because they’re not thinking about some of the fundamental elements of SEO — things that your long-form blog post needs. If you have detailed long-form content, that’s awesome.

But you need to doctor it up with SEO in mind if you want the content to be effective.

Trust me, I know this can be difficult. You’re already putting a lot of effort into the content, and it’s hard to remember all of the SEO involved.

So I compiled this list to help you out. These are 27 SEO must-haves for every long-form article': http://neilpatel.com/blog/seo-essentials/

Do Keywords Matter?

Do Keywords Matter? | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Keyword research. The process goes something like this:

- Make a list of important topics.
- Write important keywords under each of those topics.
- Plug the list into Google Keyword Planner to get data and other ideas.

- Rinse, Repeat.

What if I told you that this process is a waste of time? What if I told you that your focus should be on topics, not keywords?

You probably already know that keyword research doesn’t matter as much as it used to.

We’re in a new era of SEO. It’s like everything that we ever knew — keywords, backlinks, etc. — is being ripped out and torn up.

Where does this leave us? What should we do instead of keyword research? What do we tell our clients? How to we get our websites to rank? Do keywords even matter?

Neil Patel decided to answer these questions by conducting an advanced research project. Instead of going with hunches or making guesses, he crunched hundreds of thousands of data points.

5 Common SEO Schemes That Will Burn You

5 Common SEO Schemes That Will Burn You | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

You don’t have to use a one-size-fits-all. The diversity of different approaches that SEO offers can work for it.

There are some approaches that almost never work, to the point of being counterproductive or destructive for most brands that attempt to wield them. Why are they still around?

Some of them are obsolete practices, serving as remnants of strategies that used to work; in these cases, companies may not realize that search engines and best practices have changed.

Others are the product of wishful thinking, created by a logic that on the surface seems sound, but doesn’t reflect reality.

Following these five approaches will almost certainly burn you, so stay away from them at all costs: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/282463

Publishing fluff content

Each piece of content you create adds a new title and a new page to Google’s index, provides more content for your users to read and search engines to index and provides more opportunities to acquire conversions and inbound links. So, it stands to reason that having more content is a good thing. The problem is, many novice search-optimizers are blinded by this thought, and start churning out content in high quantities rather than paying attention to that content’s value.

This is colloquially referred to as “fluff content,” and in the early days of SEO it might have helped you. Today, it will only bring down your search rankings and irritate your users, decreasing traffic and conversion rates.
