How Relevant Are Social Signals For SEO?

How Relevant Are Social Signals For SEO? | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

Most social media sites consequently use the nofollow attribute, and this would mean that the traditional approach to ranking pages is not an initiator. Of course, there are those who believe that Google is selective in the sense of treating nofollow links.

One should keep in mind that the signal is not always the same as the ranking factor. Google said: “We are using it as a signal in ranking of organic news and results. Also, we use it for improving news on the basis of how many people shared an article.”

Other types of signals are:

 - Discovery

 - The concept of trust (sites and users)

 - Temporal (speed)

 - Context (semantics)

 - Behavioral

Old SEO vs New SEO: The New Way Must Replace the Old Way

Old SEO vs New SEO: The New Way Must Replace the Old Way | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

We live in a much-changed SEO landscape. There is no long such a thing as the #1 keyword result – results vary based on a number of factors, including geographic location of the searcher, search history, and a variety of other things.

As such, keyword stuffing, dubious back-linking and “black-hat” tactics are no longer effective – yet we still run across them being sold to unsuspecting customers on a regular basis. So, how do you know what to do when it comes to search engine optimization? You don’t have to be an SEO expert to understand the basics, so start there.

Two Sides To SEO: Generalists Vs. Specialists

Two Sides To SEO: Generalists Vs. Specialists | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

The role of a SEO professional is undergoing a serious transformation.

That led us to debating between generalists and specialists in SEO: What’s better? Do we silo ourselves into doing one thing really, really well while outsourcing or passing on referrals for what we can’t accomplish? Or do we become cross-functional digital marketers that have the ability to work across many different media and tactics?

Content Marketing & Promotion To Drive Quality Links

Content Marketing & Promotion To Drive Quality Links | SEO and Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

'Content marketing is not (just) blogging. It comes in a great many forms, some of them highly disguised.  For example, The LEGO Movie was a content marketing piece on a grand scale. It was actually a 100-minute toy commercial disguised as a feature film.

Creativity isn’t the sole determinant of content marketing’s success; SEO plays an important role, too. It doesn’t replace good content, but, without it, before your good content isn’t reaching everyone it could. So the goal is to produce content that people will love, remember, and share, but at the same time earn the signals that enable that content to be easily found by a larger audience.

Contributor Mark Traphagen recaps a session from SMX West 2015 on how to create link-worthy content.

Many people use an image straight of their camera with a file name like DSC001.jpg It is a job of seconds to give it a relevant file name eg Dog-Walking-In-St-James-Park.jpg and then you have an image which can be understood by the search engine and also one you will be able to identify easily when you look in 6 months time.
