How To Get To The Top of a Social Media Search Page: Keywords | KISSmetrics | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

From the article: "Many consumers have now discovered that they can use social networks to actually find a company that deals with the product or service they need.

So how can your company get to the top of a social media search page?

By using keywords.

Here are some of the places and different ways you can use keywords on your social media pages.

#1: Find the right keywords for your social media accounts:

it’s important to realize that the keywords you decide to use will be different for different social media accounts. It is not a “one keyword fits all” operation.

#2: Use the keyword in photo captions:

The goal is to use keywords on your social media site whenever possible. One of the first things you can do is use these keywords to describe your company photos.

#3: Use your keyword when linking and tagging webpages:

Social media keywords generally work best with sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook, but this ideas works just as well when it comes to Twitter.

Google Launches Search, plus Your World and Lets You Finally Switch On Unpersonalized Results

Google's announcement for Search, plus Your World, opens up new ways of using search as well as an unexpected secondary feature/update which is going to make happy anyone who needs to frequently check Google search results without "personalization".

"Google Search has always been about finding the best results for you. Sometimes that means results from the public web, but sometimes it means your personal content or things shared with you by people you care about.

These wonderful people and this rich personal content is currently missing from your search experience. Search is still limited to a universe of webpages created publicly, mostly by people you’ve never met. Today, we’re changing that by bringing your world, rich with people and information, into search."

Google introduces today three new features:

1) Personal Results

which enable you to find information just for you, such as Google+ photos and posts—both your own and those shared specifically with you, that only you will be able to see on your results page;

2) Profiles in Search

both in autocomplete and results, which enable you to immediately find people you’re close to or might be interested in following; and,

3) People and Pages

which help you find people profiles and Google+ pages related to a specific topic or area of interest, and enable you to follow them with just a few clicks.

N.B.: Google is also introducing a prominent new toggle on the upper right of the results page where you can see what your search results look like without personal content. With a single click, you can see an unpersonalized view of search results.

That means no results from your friends, no private information and no personalization of results based on your Web History. This toggle button works for an individual search session, but you can also make this the default in your Search Settings.

Why Google Has the Hammer To Make Businesses Use Google+ | Social Media Today

Why Google Has the Hammer To Make Businesses Use Google+ | Social Media Today | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

If Plus gets any sort of real momentum among end-users – and I firmly believe it will – Google’s unique ability to finally tie search and social together in one package will force the hand of business, making Google + the place to be for interaction between companies and their customers.

I’m not predicting the death of Facebook (or even Twitter), but smart companies will spend some time making sure they’re focused on how to BE social, and not how to DO social on a particular platform. Because eventually, the tools always change online.

Social Media Keywords vs. SEO Keywords

Social Media Keywords vs. SEO Keywords | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

Keywords and text are valuable for more than just Google results pages.

The same logic that applies to the importance of SEO content also applies to social networks such as YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

After all, these social networks have a search function similar to that of Google.

Think of these social networks as simply a different search engine, but just on a slightly smaller scale.

Many aspects of optimizing your social media accounts are similar to optimizing for the search engines.

You want content to look natural; you want to think like your target audience; you want to target 2-3 keyword phrases at a time; the more specific the better, and so on.

However, there are two vital differences that are important to understand if you’re going to begin targeting keywords for social media.

1. Different Inquiries

2. Different Answers

Internet Marketing Toolkit: 78 Resources | Search Engine Watch

Internet Marketing Toolkit: 78 Resources | Search Engine Watch | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article intro:

"We all use tools and access resources to keep us reacting quickly and professionally in this ever changing industry.

So how is one to sort through everything out there, separate the good from the bad, the expensive from the inexpensive and figure out how to tell when the price difference is worth it?

As one who both loves testing new ways of looking at data and also being a business owner who enjoys finding the best possible ROI on hardware and software alike I thought I'd put together my 78 favorite resources based on what they yield and what they procude from a dollar-in-dollar-out perspective.

I've divided these resources into nine sections. They are:

- SEO tools
- Link building tools
- Coding tools
- Conversion tools
- Convenience tools
- Social media tools
- Forums
- News & blogs
- Social profiles

Also, be warned that I'm a hug fan of Firefox and so some of these tools are Firefox extensions though many are also available on Chrome..."

The Complete Google+ SEO Guide

The Complete Google+ SEO Guide | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Here is a truly comprehensive Google+ SEO guide which covers every aspect of Google+ and how it impacts your visibility inside search results.

Key sections in this guide include:

Google+ Search FacetsGoogle+ Search ResultsGoogle+ People and Pages ResultsGoogle+ Search SpamSearch+People and PagesGoogle+ PostsGoogle +1 ButtonGoogle+ Social SnippetsGoogle+ ContentGoogle+ FormattingGoogle+ Brand PagesGoogle+ AuthorshipGoogle+ InfluenceCircle Count

Three key takeaways:

1) Google+ search results are personalized but through some crowdsourcing I’ve been able to determine the search signals.

The most important signal is whether the query term appears in the Introduction, Employment, Education or Places lived section of your profile. Danny Sullivan rarely shows up in a search for SEO because he doesn’t have the term in any of those fields.

2) People and Pages are defined, curated lists of people by topic. That means there’s nothing you can really do to optimize for these slots.

3) Panda separated low-quality and high-quality sites. AuthorRank would do the same for people and their associated content. As the tidal wave of digital content roars in Google’s ears finding ways to sort the good from the bad quickly will be of increasing importance. Content without Authorship could become a second-class citizen.

It is indeed a must-read. 9/10

5 Alternative and Little-Known Keyword Research Tools | Bluglass

5 Alternative and Little-Known Keyword Research Tools | Bluglass | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

Destiny Cushing, a buddying SEO blogger at Blueglass.com has put together a valuable showcase of five different and little known keyword research tools.

Beyond Google’s Keyword Tool, Wordtracker, SEO Book’s Keyword Suggestion Tool, and Keyword Discovery there is indeed a little universe of alternative possibilities.

And among the many, these five were selected on the basis of three very specific requirements:

a) the tool has to be free

b) it must be immediately useful, and

c) it must provide something you can’t get with the full-service tools (they offer additional insights and ways to manipulate your keyword lists that the other tools don’t offer. And for free.)

Here their names.

See if you have heard about them before diving in:

Übersuggest – Alphabet Keyword Suggestion Tool
Soovle – Keyword Suggestions from 7 Search Engines
  Ranks.nl – Keyword Combiner
Yahoo! Search Clues – Trend Analysis
  YouTube Keyword Tool

Superuseful. 9/10.

Useful SEO Tools: The Ten Best You Shouldn't Be Caught Without

Useful SEO Tools: The Ten Best You Shouldn't Be Caught Without | SEO 101 and up | Scoop.it

Cyrus Shepard at SEOMoz does a great job of selecting and highlighting ten killer SEO tools that not everyone knows about.

These may not be the latest ones nor the coolest looking ones, but they do a hell of a job like no-other SEO tool can (at least for free).

The ten must-have SEO tools he selected are:

1. Shared Count

it track the social sharing statistics of any page you desire, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and raw Twitter counts.

2. IETester

IETester is a free, downloadable web browser that allows you to render different versions of IE in side-by-side windows and check for errors.

3. Blogscape

Blogscape allows you to monitor the popularity of any keyword, brand or url on a daily basis.

4. URI Valet

You can see behind the scenes of any web page by checking server headers, text to HTML ratio, download speed, object details and quick links to W3C Validators.

5-6. Robots.txt Checkers

Essential for finding hidden problems with robots.txt files, even when no error was visible. Will discover robots.txt errors they never knew existed.

7. Wayback Machine

If you want to research older links that may have disappeared or track website modifications that resulted in traffic changes, the Wayback machine lets you peer into the past, sometimes with dramatic results.

8. SEO Browser

Quickly see all of a webpage’s important SEO structure in one view, starting with the title tag and working your way down.

9. Rank Checker

To check a bunch of rankings…. fast.

10. Xenu’s Link Sleuth
