When you look at the comments below this article, you see many nay sayers. I think these 5 will be the least of what is coming!

Carly Pechal's curator insight, September 25, 2015 9:59 AM

Although this is an article from 2012, I read through it to compare how trends in technology have emerged in the last 3 years. I was most impressed with the "touch" aspect of the predication made by IBM. This represents the increase in touch technology formats and it's purpose on why it is so popular. Thinking of the vast form of graphic design used in todays digital society, convenience needs to be spread to allow pressure sensitive touch technology formats. The only form of this type of technology that I own in my Wacon Drawing Tablet that allows for this variation, unlike my iPad and iPhone. I am very interested to see, if in the next 2 years if Apple comes out with this as an automatic feature in their products. I could see this happening in that we, as consumers, are all about convince in multiple products in one and allowing for this to take place in iPads would allow for graphic designers to more easily work on the go. If this product does become available in normal tablets, I could not even begin to imagine all of the appellations in my Graphic Design Course as well as Graphic Designers and Fine Artist use.

Starbucks opens 'Willy Wonka' coffee theater as part of larger plan - The Sun Daily

Starbucks opens 'Willy Wonka' coffee theater as part of larger plan - The Sun Daily | Sensory Marketing of foods | Scoop.it
STARBUCKS has opened a sprawling new artisan roasting and tasting room in its birthplace of Seattle, as part of a larger plan to develop a more premium coffee brand and mark a new chapter for the coffee giant.
Mirella Cais's insight:

In addition to showing visitors how their coffee is sourced and roasted, the space will also produce the company’s brand of ‘micro-lot’ Reserve coffees.

Starbucks describes the new concept -- an interactive, immersive space dedicated to roasting and coffee education -- as a Willy Wonka experience, or coffee theater.

“This Roastery is the fulfillment of a decade-long dream – an homage to our relentless pursuit of coffee innovation that will create for our customers the most immersive, sensory demonstration of how we source, roast and craft the finest coffee from around the world,” said Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz in a statement.

“Everything we’ve ever done has led us to this point. This is the moment of the next generation of Starbucks.”

An integrative review of sensory marketing: Engaging the senses to affect perception, judgment and behavior

I define “sensory marketing” as “marketing that engages the consumers' senses and affects their perception, judgment and behavior.” From a managerial perspective, sensory marketing can be used to create subconscious triggers that characterize consumer perceptions of abstract notions of the product (e.g., its sophistication or quality). Given the gamut of explicit marketing appeals made to consumers every day, subconscious triggers which appeal to the basic senses may be a more efficient way to engage consumers. Also, these sensory triggers may result in consumers' self-generation of (desirable) brand attributes, rather than those verbally provided by the advertiser. The understanding of these sensory triggers implies an understanding of sensation and perception as it applies to consumer behavior—this is the research perspective of sensory marketing. This review article presents an overview of research on sensory perception. The review also points out areas where little research has been done, so that each additional paper has a greater chance of making a bigger difference and sparking further research. It is quite apparent from the review that there still remains tremendous need for research within the domain of sensory marketing—research that can be very impactful.

Food and beverage manufacturers are increasingly recognising the value of Quality Management Systems (QMS) as a way to meet customer requirements and remain.
Mirella Cais's insight:

Companies who are thinking of going the QMS route have to define product quality and establish sensory specifications. While quality products may be defined as “free of taint” and “wholesome” during the duration of the shelf life, a quality product may also be defined by a combination of desirable colour, aroma, flavour and texture attributes.
