The Internet is quick and convenient, and it's in the best interest of health systems, hospitals and physician practices to embrace online options for their patients' healthcare needs. As healthcare changes, it's crucial that providers stay relevant. It is easier and faster to make appointments online rather than sitting on hold for hours. 93% of patients indicate they would likely choose a physician who offers email communication.

The importance of personal space

The importance of personal space | Presenting! Self | Scoop.it
You all need some personal space – to relax or to cry, to entertain quietly or even to grieve. Do not forget that, when somebody needs his or her own personal space, too. Creative ideas by end of tenancy cleaners in Hillingdon, London.

Rayeshawn Ward's insight:

North Americans, Asians and North Europeans prefer a larger personal space. However, Latin Americans, Arabs, French and Italians prefer closer contact. It may be due to the Mere Exposure Effect: people just like things that are familiar to them, and if you want someone to like you hang around them more. Careful, proximity can also breed contempt.

How to Use Anger to Your Advantage

How to Use Anger to Your Advantage | Presenting! Self | Scoop.it

Barack Obama once joked about the temperament of his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, saying that as a boy Emanuel "lost part of his middle finger. As a result of this, this rendered him practically mute."

Emanuel, now the Mayor of Chicago, is well-known for his use of profane language, which wouldn't seem to be a strong attribute for a politician. For instance, one of the leading candidates to be Mayor of New York City, Christine C. Quinn, has had to deal with the perception that she has a highly volatile personality.

Nonetheless, being shrewd politicians, neither Emanuel nor Quinn are known to show their anger in public. But both are known to use anger as a highly effective tool for exercising power in private meetings. And you can use this tool as well, argues Jeffrey Pfeffer, Professor of Organisational Behavior at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

According to Pfeffer, power-brokers like Emanuel displays anger strategically to throw people off. Emanuel gets his way because "most people are conflict-averse."

Rayeshawn Ward's insight:

According to Ting-Toomey Face Negotiation theory, having a dominating conflict style  and using anger may not make you popular, however it will help you to keep your job. This is especially true in negotiations.

It’s natural to make excuses for poor performance but they can be dangerous…...

Via Sakis Koukouvis
Rayeshawn Ward's insight:

Social media has created a divergence between the young and old population. However, the elderly use age as a means of self-handicapping especially when it comes to communication accommodation and dealing with the younger generation. Some of the ways that they achieve this is by mentioning their declining health or patronizing. But our generation I feel uses it as an uncertainty reduction tactic.

Computer mediated communication removes all natural verbal and non-verbal cues. We are sociable by nature and have a need to feel like we belong. Nothing will ever replace face to face communication.
