Why I Changed My Email Newsletter Strategy

Why I Changed My Email Newsletter Strategy | Small Business and Entrepreneurship | Scoop.it
3 Reasons Behind My New Approach I decided to change my email newsletter strategy last month. For years, I sent the entire blog post in the body of the email. We used a custom template that included many of the design elements from my blog. For a long time, that served us well. But we are no longer doing that. Instead, […]

Good post here from Michael Hyatt on why it's not necessary to waste time on 'pretty' email newsletters.

Unless of course, they are the right tool for your business.

Bottom line is, be clear what your objectives are for your newsletter - e.g. are you just raising brand awareness or do you want readers to take action? - and test to see what works and what doesn't.

*Email list building*

This post from Bryan Harris (@harris_bryan)have to be one of the most extensive blog posts I've seen on the subject of growing your email list. Lot's of practical tips and details of the exact steps to take.

A lot to take in but even if you implemented just one step a day, within a couple of weeks you'd be well on your way with your list. (Or growing your existing list if you have one already).

The Morning Rituals Of 15 Highly Successful Small Business Owners

The Morning Rituals Of 15 Highly Successful Small Business Owners | Small Business and Entrepreneurship | Scoop.it
Successful entrepreneurs share the morning routines that clear their minds, wake their bodies, and prepare them for the day.
Brett Jarman's insight:

How do you start your work day?

Some fairly intense routines shared in this article, not just exercise but some pretty hard core breakfasts as well! Not sure if they all contribute to the 'success' part of the equation...

My kick off is boot camp three mornings a week @ 0600. A run or bike ride on the off days. Scrambled eggs and spinach for breakfast followed by meditation before getting stuck in to work. What's your routine?

*Baby boomers booming in business*

Nice snapshot here of how baby boomers are adapting to more active 'retirement years' through self-employment.

The retirement age hasn't really kept up with the increased life expectancy over the past 100 years so it's great to see folks reinventing themselves in such ways.

Share or comment if you think you might start (or continue) in self-employment when you reach retirement age.

Brett Jarman's insight:

Paying yourself

Always a good idea for self-employed to pay themselves a wage. I like this approach from JD Roth (@jdroth ) where you base your wage on the lowest month of the previous year rather than the average. That would take some discipline but would certainly ensure you come out ahead.

Do you have a formula for paying yourself or does it depend on what's in the pot?

Self-Employment to rise due to Obamacare?

Interesting read on the connection between health insurance and self-employment in the US. Apparently the Affordable Care Act will reduce 'job-lock', where people stay in a job to retain employer provided health insurance.

Be interested to hear from those who have factored health insurance into their decision to become self-employed (or not)?
