Data isn’t about what we think is happening in our schools; it’s about information that is systematically collected and presented in a form that can help educators clearly and accurately see what’s happening in their schools and districts. And, according to noted systems expert Peter Senge, an accurate assessment of current reality is a prerequisite to any change effort: “In moving toward a destination, it is vital to know where you are now.”1

A couple of days ago I received an email from a reader who was looking for a good app to use to create digital portfolios of students' physical works like paintings, sculptures, or handwritten work. I had just reviewed Seesaw so that was my first recommendation. There are other good tools for creating digital portfolios of students' physical works.

The Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) Project is funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education to provide training and technical assistance to educators in Michigan that serve students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

The focus of the START Project has become systems level change implemented by school staff and administrators willing to commit to using evidence-based practices in the areas of educational programming for students with ASD, professional development, parent-professional collaboration, and service coordination.
