photo shows school segregation and the race struggle

Carlos Batara's comment, August 17, 2013 12:22 PM
I have two reactions: (1) Remember The Titans. (2) Don't show this photo to certain Harvard graduate students, who might draw faulty conclusions. By the way, which team won?
Toderick Vinson's curator insight, March 20, 2015 12:50 PM

After observing this photo, it shows modern day type of segregation. One team is a team of Americans(yellow) and the other team is not American(orange).

Are Nationalists the new Segregationists?

Are Nationalists the new Segregationists? | Segregation:present | Scoop.it

For most of U.S. history there have been segregationists. Today you don't hear of them so much because times have changed - or have they?

Can it be that the those families who used to preach separate but equal, are now the families who are anti-immigrant?

Timothy Saul Hunter's curator insight, February 3, 2015 2:19 PM

We chose this article because even though the world said no more segregation somewhere there is people that still practice it. When reading there are many people today that still believe that there should be segregation. In the article it reads "I feel sorry for a child to be born in a family that teaches racism. Our reaction to this was relief. To know that there is someone else that agrees with segregation being wrong. In reality the question still remains has time change or is history repeating its self.

The comparison of the plight of gays to racial segregation is a transparent attempt to ride the emotional coattails of past wrongs, and it undermines the gravity of racial segregation. Ryan Phillips. Herriman.

Segregated Prom Sees Black Students Escorted Out

"This seems hard to believe in 2013, but students at Wilcox County High School in Georgia have long held segregated proms — one for blacks and one for whites...
Rone's insight:
four students fighting to have racial integrated prom, parents of these kids privately funded a segregated prom but schools don't do anything about it. they have a white prom and a integrated prom. One girl says that if a black person tries to come to the white prom then she/ he will be escorted by the police officer. Homecoming is also segregated, when a black and white person won prom kind and queen they wasn't allowed to take pictures together for their yearbook. They keep the black kids from going to their prom and the school doesn't have a official stance on the matter even though they should.
