Free Technology for Teachers: How to Create an Audio Slideshow With Annotations in YouTube | seepn | Scoop.it

Within YouTube there is a free tool for creating audio slideshows. You supply the images and YouTube supplies the audio track. You can pick from thousands of audio tracks to match to your slides. After adding your slides and selecting an audio track you can add speech bubbles to your slides. I demonstrate all of these steps in the video embedded below.

Converting your video to a playable file that you can carry with you on a USB drive can really up your game when teaching in a classroom where you may not have Internet access.

This online application will 'help' IF you take a few minutes the day before your class and do a little prep work. Too often we become accustomed to having technology work flawlessly and fail to bring a plan 'B' with us.

A little preparation will go a long way, plus you'll always have a plan 'B'!

Everyone talks about Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. But have you tried SlideShare? I'm not a heavy users but it's my favorite platform for publishing slides.

Barry Feldman's article is perfect for anyone, from beginner to advanced user, interested in making the most of SlideShare. For instance, he doesn't just explain how to optimize your presentations, but he also shows you how to get featured. There are also good examples.

And did you know you could include forms in your presentations? I thought they were only available for paid users. According to Barry, it's now free!

The infographic at the end is also very interesting.

All in all, an excellent guide to read and bookmark!

“ How do you communicate in just 8 second that a viewer should continue to read or watch your content? You need to show that your content is relevant to your viewer and that it has value to them.”

Then you need to give them an easy path for further engagement with your content. Sounds like a tall order, I know, but this infographic from SDL breaks down the tasks into manageable sub-categories.

What's New in MOOCs?

What's New in MOOCs? | seepn | Scoop.it
“ Massive Open Online Courses or MOOCs are Web-based classes that are freely available to an unlimited number of students.”
Via verstelle

verstelle's curator insight, June 28, 7:05 AM

In 2013, the University of California, Irvine launched a MOOC drawing inspiration from the popular television series “The Walking Dead.” The course delved into the zombie phenomenon as a backdrop to exploring scientific concept , mathematics and health .

This year, the university has rolled out “Fight or Die: The Science Behind FX’s ‘The Strain”. Irvine has teamed up with cable television channel FX and tech company Instructure to produce a MOOC based on the popular vampire TV show. It’s a 4-week course running on the Instructure Canvas Network platform.

The MOOC takes place in an environment where a devastating attack by cyber-terrorists and a fast-spreading disease epidemic set the stage for exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of cyber-crime, parasitology, and disease dynamics. The course is driven by video excerpts from “The Strain”, and students are required to compare the science in the television drama to analogous situations in real life. Students are also expected to generate original content of their own to share, based on the course concepts.

The first module of the course is this summer, and the premiere for Season 2 of “The Strain” airs three weeks after that. Enrolment is currently underway at the Canvas Network website – and it’s free.
