What Will Education Look Like in a More Open Future? - About Education Degrees | seepn | Scoop.it
-*+In his MindShift article, David Price (author of OPEN: How We’ll Work, Live And Learn In The Future) considers what open learning systems – as productivity and innovation drivers – would look like for educators: Open learning systems apply the same learning principles to their professionals as they do to their students. They understand that …

Count of Schools Going Outside To Launch Online Degree Programs Rising -- Campus Technology | seepn | Scoop.it
“ Universities are increasingly turning to outside companies to help them launch new online degree programs. In fact, higher ed research and advisory firm Eduventures has identified at least 26 companies — known as "online program management (OPM) providers" — currently operating in this space. The data comes out of a series of reports Eduventures recently published for its member institutions.”

Adopting agile approach for eLearning development in your organization

Adopting agile approach for eLearning development in your organization | seepn | Scoop.it
“Most training developers are familiar with ADDIE, the linear framework for building effective training solutions. Like anything in this world, ADDIE has its strengths (easy to understand and communicate, straightforward development phases) and its weaknesses (fairly rigid, has challenges incorporating changes in requirements late in the process). In the past decade or so, new development models have emerged to address the weaknesses commonly ascribed to the ADDIE model. One of the better-known successors is SAM (successive approximation model). Another, which was originally imported from the software development world, is Agile.Agile has taken root in the eLearning industry because it addresses one of the fundamentally difficult challenges in eLearning development: namely, how to address late-breaking changes in requirements. An Agile approach can increase flexibility to a project while keeping the same deadline and budget, resulting in happy stakeholders and increased morale. However, not every project or organizational culture is a perfect fit for Agile.”

“Coursera’s Daphne Koller says online education will remove barriers to higher learning for millions—and change the way universities are run”

Interesting article about the future of universities and the way online courses are changing the education landscape by the co-founder and president of Coursera, Inc., Daphne Koller, for the Wall Street Journal.

I believe you have to pick and choose carefully what courses you offer in a hybrid or online format (and carefully pick your instructors, if possible). I've taken many Coursera courses. They vary greatly: some were excellent and some were awful. It didn't just depend on the topic, some instructors were incredible, some materials were inspiring, others were not.

The Heart Of #Storytelling: 7 Lessons From Novelist, Screenwriter, Filmmaker Alex Garland

Karen Dietz's curator insight, April 30, 12:01 PM

The reason I really like this article is because every piece of advice filmmaker Alex Garland shares speaks to the dynamics of creating/crafting stories, not the mechanics.

Story mechanics are "every story needs a beginning, middle, end, conflict, tension, yadda yadda..." Every storyteller needs to know this. But it doesn't necessarily make great storytelling.

So what does? Once you know the mechanics, it's then focusing on the dynamics. Like these 7 lessons Garland shares. For example:

  1. If you want to be a visionary, you have to think visually
  2. Accidents may trump decisions
  3. Know when it's not working
  4. Elements of storytelling are the same across all platforms.

Go read the article to understand more about story dynamics and what you may need to pay attention to for increasing your story skills. Then go enjoy your day!

Introduction to Communication Science from University of Amsterdam. Since Antiquity, scholars have appreciated the importance of communication: as social beings, we cannot exist without communication. We need to interact with people around us, to make sense of the world and to position ourselves in a wider social and cultural reality. In this course, we look at how and why communication evolved as a science and reflect on today’s dominant paradigms. The course also extends beyond the boundaries

Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives - brain pickings

Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives - brain pickings | seepn | Scoop.it

"“If you imagine less, less will be what you undoubtedly deserve,” Debbie Millman counseled in one of the best commencement speeches ever given, urging: “Do what you love, and don’t stop until you get what you love. Work as hard as you can, imagine immensities…” Far from Pollyanna platitude, this advice actually reflects what modern psychology knows about how belief systems about our own abilities and potential fuel our behavior and predict our success. Much of that understanding stems from the work of Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, synthesized in her remarkably insightful Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (public library) — an inquiry into the power of our beliefs, both conscious and unconscious, and how changing even the simplest of them can have profound impact on nearly every aspect of our lives."
