Forgive me for noting that working harder isn't always required. Investments or simply interest from a savings account can boost your income and/or provide you with enough capital gains to live on.
I've worked since I was 11 years old. I mowed lawns in the Summer plus other Summer job. I also shoveled snow after Winter Storms plus other Winter jobs. At 16 I got a stockman's job at a Local National Five and Dime store. At 24 I got a factory job with a Fortune 500 Corporation where I worked for 30 years. That factory closed down when I was 54. I got another factory job months later with another Fortune 500 Corporation. I was employed there for a couple years, had a heart attack at work. While I was recovering from my heart attack the factory closed down!! Two factories where I worked, one for 30 years and one for a couple years had closed down. If that wasn't enough my wife's factory where she worked for 19 years also closed down!!
I'm not sharing this story to claim hardship. Millions of people have it worse than we do. My wife went back to school at 55 and became a LPN. I'm now an Internet Entrepreneur and am earning more sitting at home in my underwear (if I choose) while my wife keeps a "job" for the Insurance policy the "job" offers.
We've always lived the "debt free with savings and investments" so we are doing well. Being prepared for hard times paid off. Learning to work smarter was forced on me as my heart condition prevents me from working outside the home. While I do not recommend a heart attack, several heart surgeries placing several stints in my heart during each operation it did motivate me to start working smarter since I could no longer work harder to earn a living.
I have several Internet Offerings online which generated for my wife and I more than I was earning at hard labor as a factory worker where I'd have to drive to work rain or shine, I would go to work when I so sick I could barely get out of bed, that's what millions of us factory workers do, every day, all day long.
I am proud to have been a factory worker and it sickens me to the way Governments, Corporate Employers, Bankers, Wall Street and Politicians are waging a war on the working poor. We the working poor need to ban together and form a communal co-op of employee owned business. We need to be Capitalist and own our own labor and the means of production. It's is long overdue.
Worker Unions were meant to attenuate the atrocities of the "job" "slave wage" labor force but Worker Unions were designed to keep us as workers and not to help us rise up and create our own employee owned businesses where we would own our own labor and the means of our own production so we could break free of the tyranny of Privately owned Corporate Power which owned our labor and the means of our production!
Wise up workers of the world! You are meant to be free independent owners of your own labor, of your own means of production, of your own lives!
