For those who are new readers, OpenSim is a free, open source virtual world platform that’s compatible with the Oculus Rift. It allows people with no technical skills to quickly and cheaply create virtual worlds, and then teleport to other virtual worlds. Those with technical skills can run OpenSim worlds on their own servers for free, while commercial hosting starts at less than $5 a region — compared to $300 a region for the same land in Second Life. There are grids whose welcome areas are always full of people hanging out, with mentors on hand to help newcomers and answer questions from residents and visitors, even grid owners stopping by to press the virtual flesh.

Kitely has not been one of those grids. In the past, its welcome region has been … well, a little unwelcoming.

The new redesign, unveiled earlier this month and built by community volunteers, addresses some, but not all, of the problems of the previous Kitely Welcome Center.

The Community Virtual Library in Second Life presents an exhibit of art work in virtual worlds during the fall of 2016. Work of Second Life artists, as well as artists in other virtual worlds, such as Kitely, Inworldz, and Opensim will be on display. Call for Virtual World Artists Contact Valibrarian Gregg in Second Life for a space at our exhibit area. Photos, notecards, signs, landmarks, links, or small demos or your artwork can be shared at the exhibit. All displays should be set up by Friday Sept. 9th.

Author conducted several mathematics workshops for teachers and camps for students and was looking for new ways to review math terms for better understanding. Author tried the way using QR codes as well as GIF animator. These ways could make more fun in the classrooms. Augmented Reality (AR) is another way that author tried to make classroom more interesting and fun. This could raise interest and motivation of the learners. Using geometrical pictures in the textbook as trackers to create AR objects, the learners paid more attention to the classroom and they studied more from textbook. Author asked students to create their own AR objects related to the topics they are studying. Some of the students used their own AR objects linking with QR codes as well as GIF animator for their work. The learners shared their AR works among groups. This shows a very strong impact in improving learning environment of mathematics classroom or even self-study anywhere.

Oncology nurses often experience intense emotional reactions to patient deaths but may be forced to ignore or hide their feelings because of work-related responsibilities. The complexity of nurses' work and personal lives creates obstacles for participating in traditional support groups where grieving nurses can bond and share. We hypothesized that using a web-based, three-dimensional (3-D) virtual world technology (Second Life) may provide a venue to facilitate peer storytelling to support nurses dealing with grief.
