Search Engine Optimization should be part of a bigger marketing strategy. If it is used effectively it can improve the visiblity of your URL and, as a result, can increase the return on your online marketing efforts. For our project with Lou Fast Food, if we had more time to work on it and could effectively use SEO, our goals would have been to increase leads, increase brand awareness, and improve ratings.

It is important to set the right goals in order to use SEO to its full potential. The main goals a company should decide between when using SEO are:

1. Boost Revenue: this should be used for e-commerce when SEO is used to quickly increase revenue through online sales. If this is the goal it is important to use keywords with buying intent and to set up e-commerce tracking.

2. Increase Leads: SEO should concentrate more on pages that describe the product, service, and/or business. 

3. Educate and Engage visitors: this goal should be used by businesses in the entertainment, travel, restaurant, resort, and local information industries. SEO should focus on illustrating the benefits of the product/service and improving the engagement rate. With this goal you should be tracking acticle downloads, bounce rates on relevent pages, and the average time spent by visitors

4. Increase brand awareness: optmize the site by using branded keywords and phrases relevent to your product/service/business. Monitor the amount of traffic that your site is getting through the branded keywords.

5. Grow visitors and traffic: This is usually used by websites that depend on advertising as a source of revenue. With this goal you will want to monthly traffic statistics to find out if you are improving the sites visibility across search engines.

6. Improve ratings: this is usually used when companies want to show dominance in an industry. A rank checker can be used to track the position of keywords you are and should be targeting.
