Scoop.it! A Case Study in Content Curation

"When I started my Scoop.it! magazines, my strategy included never just posting a link – anything posted to the site was required to include at least a one sentence intro which contained my perspective on the article. This allowed my reference thoughts to be combined with the link to the article and away I went."

25 Reasons Why Google Hates Your Blog : @copywritemattrs

This guest post is by Belinda of The Copy Detective. Your blog is a good read. Everyone says so. Although ...

So why isn’t your blog being found by other people? The millions and millions of people hungrily consuming blog content out there in the global online space we call the Internet?

The cold, hard truth is that Google hates your blog. And it’s nothing personal. You just don’t have anything that Google wants.

Creating high-quality, relevant content is a must if you want your blog to be noticed by search engines but it’s only part of the picture. If you’re not sure if Google really hates your blog, or whether it’s just ambivalent, then step through these warning signs.

How Do We Harness the Innovation Potential of our Networks?

Venessa Miemis is a pioneer and change agent, and every one of her posts is part of a mindset that is essential for anyone who wants to thrive in this new world.  I selected this piece because it is something that I am struggling with now, perhaps you are too.  There are great insights, and suggestions on how to create relationships that are empowering and productive.

Here's an excerpt:

**we embrace the gifts, skills and capacities of the individuals in the community

**We pursue common goals and not the goals of just one or two people who come forward but find a way to let everyone be heard

Only in the past few months have I heard this term “asset mapping” as a needed tool to surface hidden but available value, bootstrap communities, and get things done.

I could go on and on but want you to read the article.

My commentary:

I personally belong to private groups on Facebook, have various affiliations on other networks and I am continually struggling with the following:

**the ability to manage time constraints,  (how can I possibly be on 10 networks, be on tweetchats at night)

** do my work which is very time consuming

**find time to eat and sleep and still have time for my wonderful life offline

**come together with these people and create something meaningful. I'm living in the question, what comes next........

I feel a responsibilty to other members to do my part and contribute in ways that I feel can help move things forward.

**As a content curator, I can bring articles like this to the attention of others

**It is my hope this will stimulate discussions

**introduce new ways of looking at things

**create tools and resources for us to function in a more cohesive manner

**make a difference in whatever way we see fit and create dynamic, meaningful relationships both within and outside of these communities

**Work together to help others grow and change

When You Are On The Go, Less Is Always More: Curated Computing Is The Future of Portable Devices

Robin Good: The age of curated UI design for portable devices is already here.

But I had never thought of it this way. Until I ran into this interesting video clip from Sarah Rotman (back from May 2010) that made me think about curation in the realm of UI and content delivery design.

"Forrester Research Analyst Sarah Rotman Epps talks about how Apple's iPad and other tablet devices will usher in a new era of personal computing.

Forrester Research calls this "Curated Computing"-- a mode of computing where choice is constrained to deliver less complex, more relevant experiences.

There's more at stake here than just tablets: Curated Computing will be the dominant design principle behind future form factors like wearable devices.

Product strategists that don't want to cede the future of devices to Apple should start thinking like museum curators and editors: Sometimes less is more."

Is this really about "curation"?

What's your take on this?

Read more on the original "curated computing" Forrester concept here: http://blogs.forrester.com/sarah_rotman_epps/10-05-14-curated_computing_designing_for_the_post_ipad_era

Forced Perspective | ALAFOTO.com

"You don’t always have to use Photoshop to create optical illusions in your photographs. With a technique called forced perspective you can create illusions that make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. It just takes a little creativity with the placement of the subjects in the shot and the camera angle. "

Google Panda 3.2 Update Confirmed

"Google has confirmed reports of a Panda update with us.

[Google] told us they have done a data refresh of the Google Panda algorithm about a week ago, and added that there were no additional signals or algorithm changes. This was only a data refresh.

I saw reports over the past week or so of webmasters commenting about their rankings. Most were complaining that they lost rankings, but some said sites that were originally hit by Panda regained their traffic levels pre-Panda. This would explain the data refresh, where Google ran the algorithm and updated the sites that should or should not have been touched by Panda."
