The New Economics of TV

The New Economics of TV | screen seriality | Scoop.it
We have an almost insatiable need for content that informs, excites and inspires us and TV, in all its forms, is entering a new golden age.
Mattia Nicoletti's insight:

Television is changing, it has always been changing. And when something changes we need to adapt, to re-invent, to follow.

Tv has been always about ratings, because higher ratings mean higher advertising revenues. Now ratings are just a part of all the variables needed by ad investors and maybe not the most important. Now it's time to go back to the one-to-one communication predicted at the beginning of the century. The right ad to the right viewer means much more than the same commercial to million of people, because that ad can be value for the target.

The "only" problem is to make marketers (and CEOs) understand that they have to pay more to reach less people.

TVTechnology: Connected or Companion TV: Which Is Better for Broadcasters?

TVTechnology: Connected or Companion TV: Which Is Better for Broadcasters? | screen seriality | Scoop.it
TVTechnology “We’re not going to make a bet on a single platform or app,” says Brian Handly, CEO of StepLeader Inc., a work-inducing but realistic stance for a company focused on creating on-demand TV and second-screen apps for TV stations and...
Mattia Nicoletti's insight:

“In 2013 and 2014, the connected living room experience will gain in overall share of consumption,” Lepe predicts.

That forecast validates Handly’s decision not to “bet on a single platform or app.” It appears that there will be room—and a demand— for everything.

And that leads to the ultimate challenge: Can broadcasters figure out the monetization formula for “everything” and “everywhere?”

Is there any chance to get to standards?

In technology standard wins. Now the companion apps market is so fragmented that it is impossible to predict the future.

Social Networks Are The Next Big Mobile Ad Platform

Social Networks Are The Next Big Mobile Ad Platform | screen seriality | Scoop.it

But social-mobile ads are just getting started...."

Social Networks Are The Next Big Mobile Advertising Platform (Mobile Marketing Watch)
Social media advertising has grown thanks to customized ad units on Facebook and Twitter, writes Eric Mugnier, of M&C Saatchi Mobile. Facebook has definitely shown its potential, although largely with direct response app acquisition campaigns. This success is largely due to the quality of data that Facebook provides, which helps fine-tune targeting and ensure relevance and downloads. This is also due to new ad units rolled out over the last few months that allow users to install advertised apps without leaving Facebook. But Facebook and Twitter also need to prove their ad products can do more than just drive short-term spikes in consumer engagement.
