Mattia Nicoletti's insight:

"On February 2nd, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will face off for Super Bowl XLVIII. The Big Game is a huge day for advertisers, with nearly 110 million TV viewers and the average 30-second commercial running a whopping $4 million. However, if you’re like most businesses, you simply don’t have that kind of money in the bank to capture the attention of this captive audience. Enter the magic of mobile."

Mattia Nicoletti's insight:

"This new feature is exactly as it sounds: If you see an ad for a program on your phone or computer, be it a YouTube video, a social campaign, or just an ad, a button will pop up that says “Remind Me To Watch.” From there, the user is taken to NextGuide’s homepage, and that program is added to his or her NextGuide reminder list. Once the program is about to air, the user receives an email reminder."

How 2nd Screen Apps killed off Television Advertising - Social Media TV

How 2nd Screen Apps killed off Television Advertising - Social Media TV | screen seriality | Scoop.it
As Twitter, Facebook and apps like Zeebox continue to drive attention to TV Shows, they paradoxically kill off TV Advertising.
Mattia Nicoletti's insight:

"We are moving into a world where the TV set is the loss leader, as all attention is downward looking, at the iPad on our laps. The second screen is now the first screen. Why would a company buy TV ads when they could engage on the 2nd screen? TV stations needs to build communities on apps, not around the TV set."

The problem is that will second screen advertising cover the losses of traditional advertising?

MediaPost Publications The Real Benefit Of The Second Screen 10/30/2013

The Real Benefit Of The Second Screen - 10/30/2013
Mattia Nicoletti's insight:

One of the most important element of a change is the ability to get used to it. In the last 15 years we are get used to a lot of things because technology changed the way we communicate, we listen, we watch. If we think at the early days of Twitter and Facebook we have to admit thta just very few people could have imagined that in 5-6 years the most of the world  would communicate through social networks. As a consequence even the advertising world has changed very much and today the ad strategy is to reach the target delivering promotional contents he is interested in (advertising as a value)

Second screen advertising can be a solution for investors but now it is hard to predict if people would accept as a matter of fact advertising on the second screen when they watch television especially if what they are doing on the second screen it is not related to what they watch on tv.

We are at second screen early stages and I believe that when second screen contents will improve the entertainment of just watching a tv show (it's the case of X-Factor) then promotional content will find their place.
