Johann Lamont's summer of silence has continued into the autumn with her refusal to state her position on Trident. Ms Lamont has been hiding herself away except to pop up on a Thursday at First Minister's Questions to shout insulting and personalised sound bites at Alex Salmond.
Herald ScotlandMoore calls on SNP to 'embrace reality' on issue of independenceHerald ScotlandMICHAEL Moore yesterday demanded an "honest debate" from the SNP, claiming the recent row over EU legal advice showed the Nationalists were out of touch...
Shows you what the shaved wookie thinks! He is banging his gums, at the very time when everyone else is aware of the overwhelming evidence supports the First ministers stance, if maybe not the overall handling of the question of legal advice on EU membership.
Yet again, NO POSITIVE CASE for the union, just personal attacks on AS and the SNP. He is yet to grasp the concept that the independence referendum is not just the SNP V The world! It's YES Scotland (a group of cross party members) against the entrenched elite of the union.
It is often reported (by the media) that Alex Salmond is a talented political operator. If that is so, logic dictates that he would not say or do anything that he could not fully justify, especially...
Of course, for nationalist supporters of independence this is an issue to be celebrated, and explains why the agreement on an autumn 2014 Scottish independence referendum (signed by Prime Minister David Cameron and ...
Students and young people from across Scotland tell us why they thing Scotland is stronger as a part of the UK. From helping to secure human rights and eradi... What a load of rot! UN upholding peoples rights?
As part of the union we were dragged in to illegal wars that cost hundreds of thousands of civilian lives!
Dont forget the scare stories about barriers on the border! Costs of going to English universities and rUK being a foreign and scary place!!
A shame to see so many young people who believe we are too wee, too stupid and too poor to run our own afairs and would rather pay in all our resources, time, talent and young soldiers to the union in exchange for the crumbs from our masters table.
Aim higher people!! We can and we will be free, to stand up for ourselves, our values and our future!! Saor Alba.
You ask "does it make sense that Scotland become an independent nation?"
The simple answer to that is YES.
Scotland has long been the poor man of the UK, despite having larger oil and gas reserves than kuwait. Our close Neighbour Norway, discovered oil and gas at the same time as Scotland and they are now one of the richest nations on Earth.
Norway's oil and gas fund, which has grown at a frantic pace since receiving its first sum of money – about $300m – in 1996, now has a value of more than $600bn and owns 1 per cent of all global equities and, on average, 2.25 per cent of every listed European company.
Scotland has NO fund.
Scotland receives a lump sum payment from the UK Govt based on public sector expenditure in England over the previous year. This is known as the barnett formula.
This takes no account of the fact that Scotland regularly inputs a higher percentage of tax than is expected based on their population. It also does not include import or export duty, including oil and gas, whisky, food etc...
Added to this Scotland has one of the lowest life expectancy levels in Europe. We are 18th while England is 5th and contrary to the UK Govt propaganda this has nothing to do with 'deep fried mars mars' or Scots being too wee and too stupid to look after ourselves!
The UK Govt have also annexed 6000 square miles of Scotland's seas without letting the people know, against standing international laws on sea boundaries. A blatant grab for Scotland's resources.
We also have Victorian railways, NO high speed rail despite paying for it through taxation.
Our infrastructure is tired and not fit for modern purpose.
We face massive cuts through the UK governments austerity budget while the UK govt go ahead with a £100Bn replacement for their Trident nuclear missile subs. This while Scottish elderly people die of the cold in their hundreds each year and our schools and hospitals are under funded with some working a part time A&E service!
Our regiments have been cut and amalgamated, ending hundreds of years of proud service, while we continue to contribute through taxes for aircraft carriers with no aircraft and soldiers towards wars the Scottish people voted against and which have been deemed illegal!
Our heavy industry was closed in the 80s by the UK govt in an active effort to move the UK from an industrial country to one based on the services and financial industries, all based in London.
Scotland has had NO real sway on any General election in Westminster. The Tory party is tiny in Scotland and has a very small share of the vote. Despite this, the Tory party runs the UK, therefore the Scottish people are governed by a party they have NEVER voted for! (No taxation without representation?).
Scotland's voice is not heard in the UK Govt. Our resources go towards Westminster's grand schemes, nuclear weapons and improvements to the South East of England, while our country stands still at best, falling far short of requirements in many other areas. Our only choice is to become independent and to take control of our country, our resources and our future.
This may be of concern to some in America, for the reasons you have outlined in your article, but for myself, this is a minor issue when measured against my son and my country's future.
