Save or Save As: Teaching Kids Where Their Work Lives Inside Computers | Scoop.it! Ed topics | Scoop.it

Connie Wise's insight:

At a time when education technology is getting a lot of attention, there is no class time allocated to technology education. While school science classes ensure that everyone knows a little about atoms, planets and dinosaurs, there are no lessons on the working of a computer. Some argue that software experts should keep this hidden; we need teach this only to the computer science students.

However, just as we need to know about animal cells, it is vital to understand a little about computers. In today’s world, one may argue that this is more important than learning about rock formations. Basic concepts on operating systems like file management should be introduced in grade school.

My favorite is A Librarian's worth:
This great infographic, created by Masters in Education and ObizMedia, gives a lot of new light on the role of libraries and librarians, as it changes a reference point totally. What would we do without librarians? There is only one answer to this question: nothing.

Carey Leahy's curator insight, August 14, 2013 1:29 AM

beyond the BER - we need the Librarian to support the best use of the libraries.

Kristina Holzweiss's curator insight, April 28, 2013 10:12 PM

The Historical Scene Investigation Project (HSI) was designed for social studies teachers who need a strong pedagogical mechanism for bringing primary sources into their classroom. With the advent and accessibility of the internet, many libraries, universities and government agencies are housing their historical documents online. Simultaneously, there has been a push in K-12 history education to give students experiences that more closely resemble the work of a real historian.
