Yankees Can Only Wish to Spend as Wisely as Rays

Yankees Can Only Wish to Spend as Wisely as Rays | Scoop it 2 | Scoop.it
The Yankees have asked themselves why they must spend so much for players, while other teams, such as the Tampa Bay Rays, can win for much less by making hard choices.
Nicholas Ryan Casey's insight:

1.) What did you learn from this article?

I learned that the Yankees continue to spend big year after year, while the Tampa Bay Rays play the new phenomenon called Money Ball. There payroll for this year was only around 34 Million Dollars. Also I learned that their is a Luxuary tax in Baseball if you pay over 189 million dollars a year they must pay a tax.

2.) What infomation did you find intresting from this article?

I found it very intresting that the Tampa Bay Rays would rather trust their scouting network, coaching, and General Manager staff to make the right decisions with money choosing the option to build a team from the ground up rather than purchase one. The Yankees buy superstars, Tampa Bay buys veterans that are cheap and makes superstars on their own.

3.) Why did I select this?

I recentley saw money ball and I thought this was nearly the same thing that was going on in the real life Major League Baseball.

4.) How will this help me in the Sport Management Industry?

This will help me in the Sport Management Industry by showing myself that you need to be resposible financially and work hard scouting and coaching to be sucessfull in the world of sports or sport team success that is.

Arsenal, Liverpool Sign Three-Year Deals With Sports Drink Supplier Gatorade - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | Scoop it 2 | Scoop.it
EPL Arsenal announced a three-year sponsorship with Gatorade as its official sports drink and sports nutrition partner on Thursday. The deal will see Arsenal's U21 and U18 teams use Gatorade.
Nicholas Ryan Casey's insight:

1.) What did you learn?

I learned that Gatorade is attempting to expand their brand worldwide. I also learned that Liverpool besides only recieving money from this sponsorship will also be able to use Gatorade world class sport science facilities for research to improve their players fitness.

2.) What information did I find intresting?

Some parts that I found intresting was that Gatorade wasn't very popular in England as it is in North America. And the fact that Gatorade seems desperate to break into this market by securing deals with Arsenal and Liverpool FC.

3.) Why did I select this article?

I selected this article because I saw that Liverpool the team I support in football, agreed a deal with Gatorade while I was browsing team news. I also selected it because I thought it was intresting another American company investing in the ever so present global English Premier Leauge, the most popular sports league in the world.

4.) How will this infomation help you in the Sports Management world?

This bit of infomation shows that there is almost an unlimtless amount of sponsorship oppurtunities in sport, and just how important they are for companies and sport teams.

Management Is A People Business (Just Like Baseball) | Scoop it 2 | Scoop.it
Jim Leyland (Photo credit: Wikipedia) One reason I follow baseball -- aside from the enjoyment of following my favorite team -- is because at least a couple times a year I find a nugget of management advice that resonates.
Nicholas Ryan Casey's insight:

1.) What did you learn from this article?

I learned that managing a team or coaching a team is just like being the manager of a business. You have to nuture and help the youngsters, know the people who work for you, and communicate with your players.

2.) What infomation did you find intresting?

I found that the way he compared managing a business to coaching a team really intresting because it really is if you think about it the same. Also that they share the same leadership responsbilities.

3.) Why did you choose this?

I chose this article because I am very interested in becoming a sport coach, more specifically a youth development coach in Soccer, eventually becoming a manager of a professional team.

4.) How will this infomation help you in the sport management industry?

This infomation will help me in coaching specifically in the sports mangement industry. It shows that coaching and managing is the same as being a manager in a standard business.
