This program will deliver $1 million in grants to students in public primary schools, delivering more resources to school libraries to encourage reading and digital literacy.

This funding will support the excellent level of existing literacy within public primary schools, as well as introducing students to the exciting possibilities of online learning and digital literacy from a young age.

Students will be able enjoy a range of new reading resources including:

Digital tablets and e-readers; Computer and video conferencing infrastructure; Books and e-books; and Journal, magazine and newspaper subscriptions.

"Find a thriving library. They are not thriving because they are the best at running around yelling the sky is falling. Playing the role of the poor little library is not endearing, it is, frankly, embarrassing. Even when there is a financial crisis, or even when the community has a crisis of confidence, we should ask for support based on a track record of service and support."

We will never get all our eBooks from one publisher, and as no one searches by publisher, we also give preference to suppliers that enable us to integrate our eBooks into our library catalogue so we can offer single search from a single user authenticated sign on.

Compiled by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and Victorian Catholic Teacher Librarians (VCTL) Working Party on VIT Standards, this document provides scenarios on each standard for teacher librarians to use as a guide when preparing for their annual review meetings (ARMs). Even though this document is based on the Victoria standards for teachers it can and does have application for other states standards. This document is available now on the ALIA Schools website. The creation of this document was originally part of the work undertaken for SIFiL [School Improvement Framework in Libraries].
