With lab-grown meat, can we have our animals and eat them too? | Science | Scoop.it
Not many scientists are trying to grow meat in the lab, but those who are think it could change the world.

Flesh eye rings on birds

Flesh eye rings on birds | Science | Scoop.it
Function is partially to regulate temperature as the blood vessel density is very high and serves to bring Shen the overall temperature of the bird. In flight, blood courses through the eye ring and is cooled down by the air that passes over it. In many birds, skin computations like this are the result of optical interactions with biological nanostructures (microscopic structure of the skin). These structural colours occur in the skin, bill, legs and feet in ~129 avian genera in 50 families from 16 avian orders (250 bird species: 2.5%). Colouration is due to pigments, molecules that differentials emit and absorb wavelengths of visible light. Carotenoids are the pigments responsible for colourful skin (and feathers) and typically generate a red, orange or yellow hue. Birds cannot synthesise carotenoids and so must acquire them through diet.
