PicMonkey

PicMonkey | School tools | Scoop.it

Being touted as THE replacement for the sadly defunct Picnik. Online graphic editing software with a humungous selection of editing, enhancement and developing tools.

Some features are chargeable but I hope that the "free" element still remains. I'm off to do the "teeth whitening" and "thinner function" on my avatar. Enjoy, thanks to @Xannov on Twitter.

Museum Box

Museum Box | School tools | Scoop.it

This site provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box.

What items, for example, would you put in a box to describe your life; the life of a Victorian Servant or Roman soldier; or to show that slavery was wrong and unnecessary?

You can display anything from a text file to a movie. You can also view and comment on the museum boxes submitted by others.

This is a really original and unusual idea (http://museumbox.e2bn.org/creator/viewer/show/34 for a working example).

Flipbook! is an application that allows people to draw simple frame by frame animations, view them, save them, export them to PDF and share them with others via e-mail.

Simple frame by frame animation tool. A poor relation to DoInk but now that this has gone, the only one left to do simple designs. Has 4 frame onion skinning.

Great for showing science concepts.

Another planning/collaborative tool. Click on the link to get a "corkboard" with a secret URL link that you can send to others.

Fairly limited. With free account all you can add is text and is limited to 15 post-its which might make for an interesting Review/Plenary task in the form of a "balloon debate?"

No scoring involved. Good for revision/starter/plenary. Here is the tune if you are missing it - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7336564/Blockbusters%20-%203.mp3

You can play for free or create (tutor/year) groups and compete against each other on a leaderboard.

Convert text to speech with this free online tool. One of the better ones particularly if you use the Scottish male accent (think Mike Myers in So I Married an Axe Murderer)

Speech is slow enough to understand and a simple way to get students to record voxpop comments for opinions etc for Mahara, blog, moodle upload

No female accents :o(

Kathleen McClaskey's curator insight, December 3, 2013 10:56 AM

In this new version, we have included clarification on Assessment OF, FOR and AS Learning.

>Individualization involves assessment OF learning. This is where summative assessment is grade-based and involves testing to confirm what learners know and do not know.

> Differentiation  involves assessment FOR learning and OF learning. This is assessment that involves time-based testing where teachers provide feedback to advance learning.

> Personalization involves assessment AS learning, FOR learning, and a minimal OF learning. This is where teachers develop capacity so learners become independent learners who set goals, monitor progress, and reflect on learning. Assessments are based on mastery.

Jo Blannin - The Know Tech Teacher's curator insight, December 4, 2013 9:56 PM

I love this graphic of the difference between Personalisation, Differenctiation and Individulisation. We often use the words interchangeably but as with anything, the language becomes important when you are trying to communicate to people - including teachers.

I've used this with teachers at my school, in small groups, to talk about what it is we are actually doing in the classroom....

Samantha Maitland's curator insight, March 23, 2015 8:06 PM

just a helpful chart that explains the differences between personalization, differentiation, and individualization!

Really useful when you wish to take video of an activity and add in different commentary over it. Or as translations for language work done in Screenr (and uploaded).

Lots of uses surely. Not too difficult to do. You can also save just the captions themselves to email to others.
