A global look at pedagogies for 21st century skills

A global look at pedagogies for 21st century skills | School Library Resources | Scoop.it

Disconnects between policy mandates/supports and desired practice were found in most of the schools and all of the systems in our sample. For example, teachers were often being asked to innovate while being incented and judged solely by measures of the facts that students had acquired through traditional means, or given ICT to use without related curricular materials and models for ways to use it powerfully and effectively in subject matter learning. It was rare that teachers experienced standards, curriculum, professional development, assessments, and incentives that all aligned to support the development of students’ 21st century skills.

It is not the desired practice which is disconnected, but more an issue of did policy makers actually go into classrooms and have conversations with teachers.

" If you don't manage your online reputation someone else  might do it for you, and you may not like the results."

Good Point! This article has really made me think about what my online reputation is and looks like. Here is a summary of the 5 easy steps to getting known on the internet and keeping a good reputation while doing so:

1. Asses your current reputation - search for yourself online

2. Identify the changes needed - anything negative needs to be deleted or pushed down in the search results

3. Determine your best areans - publish more content on the places you are most popular,  you will hsve the most influence there.

4. Decide what type of content and topics you will publish about to promote the reputation you want to builld.

5. Start building - Publish and promote valuable content. Track your reputation by measuring and mointoring the success of your publishing and modify and make changes as necessary

The 10-Minute Guide To Bloom's Taxonomy - Edudemic

The 10-Minute Guide To Bloom's Taxonomy - Edudemic | School Library Resources | Scoop.it

Bloom’s Taxonomy is one of the most cited theoretical constructions within education and e-learning. This is well earned since, after its first publication in 1956, the taxonomy has quickly become an important milestone within educational theory.

However there are many professionals within the educational and e-learning fields that have only a vague idea of what the Taxonomy is all about, or that have only met the taxonomy (or some revisited version of these findings) for the Cognitive domain only, leaving the Affective and Psychomotor domains at the margins, if not completely out of the picture.

The robotic soundtrack is a little irritating, but this is a well-constructed and relatively deep introduction to the taxonomy, including the underlying psychology that drives it.

The importance of instilling a need to read

The importance of instilling a need to read | School Library Resources | Scoop.it

Reading for pleasure at the age of 15 is a strong factor in determining future social mobility. Indeed, it has been revealed as the most important indicator of the future success of the child.

That was the startling finding of research carried out by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on education and reading, and their role in promoting social mobility. It highlights why getting teenagers to read for pleasure is more than a sepia-tinted ambition for frustrated parents. It is a fundamental social issue.
