The virtual learning commons could be the secret power that turns your school website into a participatory digital space that serves learning 24/7.
Karen Bonanno's insight:

Quote from article - "A virtual learning commons (or VLC, as it's called) turns the traditional library page on a school website from a one-way stream of stale information into a lively and participatory digital space for students and teachers."

Awesome Visual on The Importance of Reading Aloud to Kids

Awesome Visual on The Importance of Reading Aloud to Kids | School Library Advocacy | Scoop.it

"Below is a graphic I come across while wading through my feeds today. The visual emphasizes the importance of read-alouds  in early literacy learning. It also features a set of interesting facts on how reading aloud helps in kids' literacy development. Reading aloud to kids is not only beneficial to young learners linguistic abilities but is also connected to their social and cognitive development. And the most important of them all is that only 15 minutes of read-aloud is enough to make a difference"

Want to hang out with a bunch of really smart people? Spend a day at a convention of school librarians. They are exemplars of what the Opening Session speaker, Tony Wagner, author of Creating Innovators: The Making of Young People Who Will Change the World, says the country needs if we are going to produce the many young innovators needed for our technology-driven new world order.

School Libraries Renewed

School Libraries Renewed | School Library Advocacy | Scoop.it

The United States no longer has a workforce dependent on operating machinery and performing repetitive tasks. Educators are therefore challenged to change the way students learn and to provide a workforce that is innovative and that has the ability to design new jobs. To do this, students must learn to be problem solvers, to create products that meet real needs, to demonstrate leadership in presenting ideas, and to connect learning to community imperatives. School libraries can help meet these challenges for all students.

School libraries are about connections - curriculum, technology, literacies ....
