Nonprofit attempts to revive school libraries | School Library Advocacy | Scoop.it
A nonprofit organization seeks volunteers and donations to support reopening libraries in public schools facing strained budgets.

Schools must be screened for entry into the program with prospective candidates demonstrating solid leadership, strong community support from volunteers who can commit to work during one to two days of operation, Brown said. Buildings also must be in good physical condition.

The first one balancing managing and leading echoes Peter Vaill's work. He sees the two integrated and refers to them as managelead.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 25, 2015 11:06 AM

I chose this resource because, as a prospective educational leader, I was interested in knowing "what to do". I particularly like the distinction the author gives between "management" and "leadership". Managing effectively is a necessary element, principals who manage proficiently have the opportunity to influence and lead. Also, having an idealized vision, but addressing matters that are "actionable" and work towards the greater goal is important - staff wants to witness progress. The most important consideration is the students. I believe good principals always revisit the question "what is best for the kids"

Building Advocacy for your School Library Program

Building Advocacy for your School Library Program | School Library Advocacy | Scoop.it

In advocating for our school library programs, we must identify our stakeholder priorities, develop a mission statement that aligns with our district and school mission, develop programming that will meet the needs of our stakeholders and collect data that doesn't just represent the number of books we check out each month, but really connects to the mission of our district and demonstrates how we support student growth.

Project, Problem, and Inquiry-Based Learning

Project, Problem, and Inquiry-Based Learning | School Library Advocacy | Scoop.it

Project-based learning, problem-based learning, and inquiry-based learning all three closely relate to the information processing approach. They all fit well with technology-rich learning environments where the focus is not on the hardware and software, but on the learning experience. In each case, technology is used to facilitate learning. It may be a tool to organize ideas (such as Inspiration), search for current information (such as an online news source), or present ideas (such as PowerPoint presentations). However the focus of learning environment is the student's excitement about solving a problem or addressing an issue they find meaningful.
