Adding value: Principals’ perceptions of the role of the teacher-librarian | QUT ePrints

This paper reports on a study into principals’ perceptions of the role of the teacher-librarian. Nine principals in Australia were interviewed about the role of the teacher-librarian and library in their school. The findings indicated a range of ways in which the teacher-librarian adds value to the school, including in their role as teacher, providing the principal with a broad perspective on the workings of the school, providing advice and ideas, and providing leadership in the use of information and communications technology (ICT) at the school. It also identified a number of personal qualities valued by principals.

27 Ways To Inspire Innovative Thinking In Students

27 Ways To Inspire Innovative Thinking In Students | School Library Advocacy | Scoop.it

Innovative thinking in students will flower when we design classrooms that absolutely can’t survive without it. Same with critical thinking, self-direction, creativity, and so on. Until we reach that point, it’s on the shoulders of the classroom teacher to tease it out of students through a combination of inspiration, modeling, scaffolding, and creating persistent opportunity.

I have to confess, I'm an inconsistant blogger. I don't think I'll ever have the time or the tenacity to blog every Tuseday and Sunday...or twice a week.

Sometimes I only blog once a month, sometimes twice, or even 4 times a month, but it's not the frequency that makes a blog successful, it's the information shared and the authentiicty of the message.

I really respect @rmbyrne  SO much for his excellent and frequent advice!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this short, but thought-provoking piece by Terry Heick of TeachThought. Of course, in philosophical terms, these secrets work for anyone in any profession but I think it is especially important for teachers in the day & age of constant change. For media specialists, this couldn't be a more important framework of the dispositions that make one a truly indispensable member of the school community. Enjoy!

A journey to iCentre thinking

Without a doubt, libraries will continue to evolve. The purpose and experience . . . will change, and change again, in the physical and virtual iterations. It’s daunting in many respects, but at the current speed of change in information /media management and dissemination, we’re best off when we assume that change is a constant. Prakash Nair and Annalise Gehlin, in the introduction to Rethink!
