This article addresses UK reading issues, but the message relates to reading curriculum in any country. We need to anchor classic reading choices with contemporary literature reflecting 21st c. teen experiences and concerns.

We also need to make sure school and public libraries are stocked with materials children and young adults WANT to read.

"The mission of librarians, according to Lankes, is to “improve society through facilitating knowledge creation in their communities.” I’d unpack that as saying librarians enable learning, which as any librarian will tell you is common practice. It’s so common, in fact, that we never seemed to notice. Now it’s the story we need to tell."
Yes teacher librarians are in the business of learning and learning to learn!

I don't know where our family would be without Apple TV! It's a great source of entertainment and so easy to use. Right now, my children are watching a movie streamed through the iPad to the TV. This could be very useful in the classroom, when you want to share a video with the whole class. Delete the scoop?

Those interested in research that PROVES the power of a professionally staffed library media center should go to Kiety Curry Lance's website. His decade long studies are the strongest research I know of that look into the effectiveness of library media specialists. http://keithcurrylance.com/

I"m surprised research is still being done on this topic. For my money, Kieth Curry Lance proved the point sometime ago: http://keithcurrylance.com/ Delete the scoop?
