This is a powerful claim: "...rethinking the library’s role is changing education at the Albemarle school". This story about innovations at Monticello High School library shows how the tracking of student and teacher interactions with the school library before and after infrastructure and program changes can be used to demonstrate impact. Receiving a state-based school board association award is also evidence of impact.

One of the hallmarks of a leader is taking time to read good books on leadership.  I have suspected that the internet is changing the way that we read - and this article in not encouraging.

School Library Marketing 101: It's About Students Not Stuff.

School Library Marketing 101: It's About Students Not Stuff. | School libraries for information literacy and learning! | Scoop.it

School library marketing has to begin and end with impact.  It has to be about what we do for our kids, our teachers, our communities and why it's important.  It has to be about outcomes and the message that "we're all in this together" or, put another way, that we care just as much about student success as any other teacher in the building.

A key to literacy: School librarians’ collaboration with other educators

A key to literacy: School librarians’ collaboration with other educators | School libraries for information literacy and learning! | Scoop.it
The School Libraries section of the 2014 State of America's Libraries Report provides an overview of the top school library trends of the past year.
School libraries are at a critical point: Budget and testing pressures have led to decisions to eliminate or deprofessionalize school libraries, but the increased emphasis on college and career readiness and the integration of technology makes them more critical than ever. School librarians’ collaboration with other educators is key to literacy and imlementation of Common Core State Standards. The American Library Association (ALA) is undertaking an advocacy campaign for school libraries that sets goals in five critical areas.

Hello, Year 9!

Here is an excellent resource regarding questions that a critical thinker asks whilst reading. I believe this will be incredibly useful for you as you develop your chapter summary for chapter four of The Outsiders which is due at the end of this week. Remember - you can present your chapter summary in any way you wish - a story board, a mind map, a Prezi, a short multimedia presentation, whatever takes your fancy.

As a critical thinker, you will need to develop the skills to read between the lines of what the author (in this case, S. E. Hinton) is describing through the text. This infographic provides you with some questions to help you get into the role of a critical thinker, and get you started on your project.
