Questions Learners Should Be Addressing Every Day at School by Jackie Gerstein

Questions Learners Should Be Addressing Every Day at School by Jackie Gerstein | School libraries for information literacy and learning! | Scoop.it
I believe it is every educator's responsibility to help insure that learners are addressing the following questions during each school day: What questions am I asking today? What answers am I seeking today? What am I exploring today? What am I making today? What am I finding exciting today? How am I playing and having…

The difference between knowing and understanding.

Amina Oyegoke's curator insight, March 9, 2:54 AM
As soon as I read the title of this article I immediately though of when I had to read Chapter 1 of my Computer Literacy textbook. Being a part of the "tech savvy" generation I thought I knew mostly everything about digital and computer literacy, and I thought that class was going to be a piece of cake. Turns out, there's way more to computers and anything else digital that I had no clue about. So much stuff that the main part of the class is reading, reading, reading. You would think a computer class would be more hands on, but since technology is evolving so fast, the professor can only go over so much in the time that he has. In this article it starts off right away informing its readers the difference between digital skills and digital literacy. The author, Sally Pewhairangi, also gave examples about the difference between the skills and literacy of research. From those findings, I found the author to be credible because she is an Auckland-based librarian who specializes in Library Intelligence.

We often tend to carry on with our typical teaching methods, and sometimes believe that the trainer needs to stay in charge of the learning event. It can be useful to check out this list... stop and evaluate the different options out there that shift the weight from teacher to learner. Surely there is a part of the learning objective that could be covered better through a learner centered approach.

Anu Ojaranta: Muutos!

Anu Ojaranta: Muutos! | School libraries for information literacy and learning! | Scoop.it
