This current grant project includes a survey of the technology integration practices of school librarians with National Board Certification. Survey results revealed that the 295 respondents work in well-resourced libraries with personnel assistance as well as numerous computers and devices. Respondents reported that they led school technology integration in many areas but also had areas in which to improve, such as providing services to special needs learners, building digital collections, participating in student assessment, and transferring their leadership success to professional and local communities.

My role as the Teacher Librarian offered me the understanding and initiatives through the wide range of external TL PD and the opportunities in the job itself, to become the school's Learning Technologies Coordinator.I enjoyed this position for 5 years while the school staff went through a huge ICT learning curve! I retired in 2011 and subsequently was offered a part time professional position at another school training and inservicing staff to integrate learning technologies into their programs at the secondary school level.

School Library. Media Literacy and Learning Commons in the Digital Age: Knowledge Model

School Library. Media Literacy and Learning Commons in the Digital Age: Knowledge Model | School libraries for information literacy and learning! | Scoop.it
"School libraries today feel increasing pressure to reinvent themselves in the face of increasing financial pressures, new media technologies, and a progressively media-savvy population. Their transformation from information reserve to knowledge center has been fast underway. This paper builds on that evolution to develop an argument for media literacy education as the pedagogical foundation for the learning commons model for school libraries. This would position the school library as a dynamic media literacy learning hub, anchoring entire schools around knowledge, expression, collaboration, and creation in both virtual and physical spaces. The paper will highlight the case of Chelmsford High School Learning Commons in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, as a vibrant central space in a school for just this type of integrated learning."
