From Prof. Woody F. Horton: Colleagues, it is with a great deal of both gratitude and pride that I call your attention to our ePub announced today by UNESCO entitled "Overview of Information Literacy Resources Worldwide."  Many of you either contributed one of the 42 language lists that are contained in this publication,or advised me on the content and format. The publication is available both in ePub format and as a pdf file.  I will be back in touch with you to solicit your ideas for how to use this tool to help ordinary citizens worldwide, who are not fluent in English, and would prefer to search for information literacy resources in their own native languages.  If you are a member of this Google Discussion group but do not see your native language in the database
in the ePub, please communicate with me because we intend that as many
languages as feasible be added to the database going forward, and also put in place a tool so that the "starting entries" can be kept up-to-date, perhaps using a wiki. We would welcome volunteers to prepare lists of IL resources in languages which are still missing from the database.

15.02.2013 - A collection of Information Literacy (IL) Resources from
around the world is now available on UNESCO’s website in e-Pub and PDF
formats. The publication titled “Overview of Information Literacy
Resource Worldwide” is divided into 42 language lists and includes
selected resources – from websites, books, journals and other kinds of
publications – that were provided by contributors from different
countries and institutions and compiled by Dr Forest Woody Horton Jr."

and ePub file links appear on the right side of the screen on the
webpage containing the full article, under "Files."  Also if you wish
you can contact Irmgarda Kasinskaite, the senior UNESCO staff
programme officer in charge of the IL programs of UNESCO.

Media and Information Literacy for teachers

Media and Information Literacy education is a recently-developed pedagogical approach that take into consideration the new cultures emerging from the Information Society. Some prefer the terms Media Education, News Literacy, Digital Literacy, Information Literacy, or 21st Century Literacies. Media Studies and Media Ecology researchers world-wide are also contributing to the development of these new educational initiatives.

Media Literacy and Learning Commons in the Digital Age: Toward a Knowledge Model for Successful Integration into the 21st Century School Library | The Journal of Research on Libraries and Young Adults | School Libraries around the world | Scoop.it

"School libraries today feel increasing pressure to reinvent themselves in the face of increasing financial pressures, new media technologies, and a progressively media-savvy population. Their transformation from information reserve to knowledge center has been fast underway. This paper builds on that evolution to develop an argument for media literacy education as the pedagogical foundation for the learning commons model for school libraries. This would position the school library as a dynamic media literacy learning hub, anchoring entire schools around knowledge, expression, collaboration, and creation in both virtual and physical spaces. The paper will highlight the case of Chelmsford High School Learning Commons in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, as a vibrant central space in a school for just this type of integrated learning."

Moscow declaration on Media and Information Literacy

Moscow declaration on Media and Information Literacy | School Libraries around the world | Scoop.it

In order to raise public awareness of the significance, scale and topicality of the tasks of media and information literacy advocacy among information, media and educational professionals, government executives and public at large the International Conference Media and Information Literacy for Knowledge Societies was held in Moscow, Russian Federation, on 24−28 June, 2012. Maria-Carme Torras i Calvo, Chairperson of the IFLA Information Literacy Section and Albert Boekhorst, Information Coordinator, attended the conference; Albert provided one of the Keynotes and Maria-Carme moderated some of the plenary sessions.

The final document from the conference—The Moscow Declaration on Media and Information Literacy—was discussed and unanimously adopted at the Conference closing session.
