Librarians: Your Most Valuable MOOC Supporters

Librarians: Your Most Valuable MOOC Supporters | School Librarians | Scoop.it
Librarians are a major part of universities, but they're almost entirely missing from the MOOC conversation. That's a big mistake.

Libraries offer resources, from research to licensing support, that are essential to the future of MOOCs as they grow both in numbers and in seriousness. Inspired by the Google Fiber for Communities project, Kansas City librarians are leading the way in a new national initiative, the K-20 Librarian. Initiated by the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, we are a collaboration of school, public and academic librarians.

We've begun building bridges among K-12 schools, public libraries, colleges, universities and other organizations to extend digital learning opportunities and resource sharing. We will leverage emerging technologies such as high-performance Internet access anticipated from Google's gigabit fiber project.

Our collaboration is part of a national advocacy campaign launched by the Digital Village “Fiber to the Library” initiative and Internet2’s K20 program.
