The 3 E’s of Re-tellable Leadership Stories

The 3 E’s of Re-tellable Leadership Stories | international mindedness | Scoop.it

There are three kinds of people, said the sign on the wall of my dad’s coaching office:

Those that make things happen, those that watch things happen, and those that don’t know what the heck happened.

Excellent points Nancy!
Peter (PJ) Fulcher-Meredith's curator insight, December 3, 2013 1:06 AM

As Karen said a different way of capturing and curating your business stories.  Anything that helps leaders to categorise and re-use and re-purpose stories the better. Make it easier and leaders will use stories more and more to engage their people. Nice one.

Empathy in leadership: can it be developed?

Empathy in leadership: can it be developed? | international mindedness | Scoop.it

Empathy is who we are in our connection to each other. If there is little connection there, our relationships, mood, feelings, emotions are not taken into account. Without any connectedness, there is no insight, understanding of each other’s world and perspectives. There is no openness, trust or vulnerability. There is no sense that you know me as a person. As someone who has dreams, ambitions, hopes, concerns, feelings…There is only the sense that I work for ‘you’, the ‘organisation’ and that I am here only to produce results. How many of you have felt like that?

Can empathy be learned, honed, developed as a leadership skill? Is empathy innate? Interesting article.

Simon Sinek: Why Leaders Eat Last

In this in-depth talk, ethnographer and leadership expert Simon Sinek reveals the hidden dynamics that inspire leadership and trust. In biological terms, leaders get the first pick of food and other spoils, but at a cost. When danger is present, the group expects the leader to mitigate all threats even at the expense of their personal well-being.

Understanding this deep-seated expectation is the key difference between someone who is just an “authority” versus a true “leader.”

This is a pretty good article for teachers who are trying to divert from the traditional methods of leading the class. The main focus should be the steps given, which are easy to learn and broad enough to adapt any classroom. I would recommend others use this article as a guideline to how you should lead the class room. I like the idea of imagining the role as a "learner first."
