Handy iPad Posters to Use in The First Week of School ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Handy iPad Posters to Use in The First Week of School ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | School Leaders on iPads & Tablets | Scoop.it

"If you are planning to incorporate iPad in your classroom teaching then you definitely need to work on some preliminary stuff before anything else. These are basically formalities and conventions students need to abide by when using iPad in class. Making students explicitly aware of their responsibilities behind using iPad in class will certainly help you tap into the full educational potential of this versatile gadget. I have gone through my archive and picked out these handy visuals for you to use with your students."

Gebruik je iPads in jouw klas? Dan zijn deze posters wellicht handig om te gebruiken. Je moet ze natuurlijk wel eerst even vertalen in het Nederlands.

Is iPad Teacher Training a Necessity? - teachingwithipad.org

Is iPad Teacher Training a Necessity? - teachingwithipad.org | School Leaders on iPads & Tablets | Scoop.it

"The following excerpt was taken from a recent article on Edudemic, by Adam Webster (@cagelessthink).

"If you give a child a device they will sit and play with it until you ask them to stop and perhaps even after that they’ll still keep playing. If you give one to a teacher, they’ll do what they can when they can, but it might well sit in a drawer for a long while before they get the opportunity to really test drive it. Beyond the constraints of time, it is also worth remembering that there are plenty of teachers who learnt their trade in schools where technology simply didn’t exist and many who don’t see it’s value."

I completely agree with this. Kids will learn by themselves if you give them the time. Teachers are so busy with prep work that they don't have time to play and discover the same amount that a child would. Even for myself, this summer, I haven't put too much thought into learning new developments for education in the iPad realm. When school comes again in about a month, this will undoubtedly change."

Are Tablets Are a Fad That Will Largely Disappear in 2–3 Years?

Are Tablets Are a Fad That Will Largely Disappear in 2–3 Years? | School Leaders on iPads & Tablets | Scoop.it
The iPad came out of the Apple chute in 2010 like gangbusters, setting all kinds of sales records. Schools picked up on the iPad too. But the tablet is a fad, we argue; it will pass away in short order (two to three years) because it is neither a mobile device nor a work device – and folks (and schools, we should hope) want those two types of devices!
Mel Riddile's insight:

"But, Ultrabooks — the slim laptops have not done as well asdesired/predicted. The irony of course is that Apple has the best Ultrabooks — their 11 & 13 inch screened MacBook Air laptops are the cat’s meow when it comes to featherweight laptops but they can’t seem to make a big-screened phone. Go figure."

Under new standards, students are struggling "productively!"

Under new standards, students are struggling "productively!" | School Leaders on iPads & Tablets | Scoop.it

I can remember spending almost a full period on one short paragraph while reading about endothermic and exothermic reactions in science class. We spent time highlighting, underlining, making connections to things we already knew, asking questions in the margins, defining words and more. The room might as well have smelled of smoke— these kids were thinking, brains-on-fire style! They were struggling…PRODUCTIVELY! I was hooked, and unbelievably, so were they. I heard several kids exclaim, “Ohhhhhhh, I get it.”
