Quickwrite: Last Train Home

Do you agree or disagree with the decisions that Qin's parents made? What would you have done differently?

Via Joel Leagans
Justice The Bryant's insight:

I think the choice the parents made to leave there children to go work in the city to make enough money for Qin and her brother to go to school was the right  decision. However if it was up to me i would have tried to make enough to  move my family closer to me, so i would be able to see them more often

If I were placed in the shoes of the parents of Qin in "Last Train Home," I wouldn't have been quite so harsh, however I believe that Qin's unhappiness was inevitable, and no matter what would have lead to her deciding to leave her home. It wasn't just her parents that drove her away, it was that mixed with the lifestyle she was forced to follow. Hopefully the invasion of the ducks has opened her eyes to a more free lifestyle. Qin's father was a quack to have hit his daughter, because now she waddles alone, having left her family behind. Her webbed feet grow tired of leading her life on their own. Even through all of this, though, she keeps her bill held high, standing strong.

The parents are correct for having left to get a job to give quin a better education. The parents had to make their own personal sacrifices in order to let quin move ahead in life. But quin not liking farm life and having no parents around to raise her goes against her parents will and leaves the farm in order to get a job for herself in a factory.

i agree with the decisions the parents made, the only reason they moved was because the kids could have a better education and a better life. but they cant just come after a year and visit their kids and expect everything to be ok. i would do the same thing if i was in the same situation as Qin's family is in.

QW: Palestine Israel

Quickwrite

Via Joel Leagans
Justice The Bryant's insight:

i think the Palestinians should be able to move back to some of there land, but at the same time they should just learn to relax. yea sure they lost most of there home over something that happend a while ago but they had a chance to receive a good portion of it back, but there ahem *pride* caused them to  loose that chance. so really i think they should just chill for a bit and let things calm down a bit and maybe just maybe they would be able to receive some of there land back .

think that the conflict can be resolved by a treaty being set for each the Palestinians and Israelis. They should also be given land since it is their homeland.

I think that the conflict can be resolved by giving the Palestinians their own country. They lost more land then what they had before. They deserve to live on thier land. Or they can resolve by a treaty to give each other equal rights.
Tiana Coleman's comment, April 2, 2014 1:17 PM
I feel that the palestinians and jerusalem should all come to an agreement of equal rights. Cause the palestinians should be comfortable as any other country in the world. Also jerusalem should 'nt be divided cause its their land. But the palestinians should'nt have to go through all that chaos

QW: Church and State

I Mr. Leagans puts a copy of the Ten Commandments up in his room.  His principal asks him to take it down saying that it is a violation of church and state.  Mr. Leagans disagrees and believes that the Ten Commandments will help provide his students with moral guidance.  What do you think Mr. Leagans should do?

Via Joel Leagans
Justice The Bryant's insight:

I think Mr. leagans should take it down , since he could get into trouble over it. For example a Jewish kid could get offended by the copy of the 10 commandments and tell his parent. The next day they could tell the principal cause and effect. So unless he wants all of that drama i suggest he takes it down

I agree with Lisha Patel's comment because if no student is offended by the amendments then it should stay up. There should not be a problem if no student is offended.

Mr.Leagans should keep the copy of the ten commandments because some students need guidance and that may be a reminder to them to be good. And may help students think about their actions. Mr.Leagans should also tell his students to think about the copy and just try to understand it.
