Yes, intelligence and talent matter in educational performance, but we can't undersell the importance of hard work and persistence in academic success.  With so many educational overhauls, many of these plans fail to address the underlying problem--we need more grit.  The speaker defines grit as 'passion and perserverance for very long-term goals.' This is a great talk and I love the framework it takes for approaching education.

Definitely agree!  Certainly see this in math.  Don't have to be a math genius to succeed, you just have to stick with it!
