Has anyone considered or heard of technology assessment as applied without a policy-informing objective? I deal with constructive TA in a context of commercial business venturing in developing countries where the objective is more focused on sustainable business model creation. The idea is to test out TA in partnerships between development NGO's, businesses and academia. Any thoughts about this would be welcome. See our site: http://www.access2innovation.com/
-Just to be more precise: In the public poicy-making arena, TA is especially merited as part of a deliberative process in which citizens and stakeholder views are brought to the fore in the assessment of technoogical pathways. BUT - if the introduction of new technology occurs in the private sphere alone, in a developing country and through an NGO partnership, how to go about this in the most sensible way? What does TA mean if end-user views are proxied through intermediaries (the NGO's) and if the intervening actors are commercially minded (the businesses)?
- Very interesting your approach to TA. Actually I am also focus TA aplication to a comercial purposes, in the specific field of the high speed train manufacturing industries. Where consultation to end users and customers train operators is essencial to assure market uptake of new tecnologies. In my particular case I am ficusing on corporate technology assessment of european multinationals. However I would like to know more about your work, as I am currently living in Mexico, based in UAQ university, and you comercial approach to aid to development fets here.

Future extraterrestrial rovers may be powered remotely by high-energy laser beams shot through miles of thin fiber-optic cables. This new technology could allow robotic probes to penetrate thick layers of ice to explore Antarctic lakes or the subterranean oceans on icy moons like Europa or Enceladus, and even power a new kind of rocket into space.
