Bamboo Smartphone Coming to Kickstarter

Bamboo Smartphone Coming to Kickstarter | scatol8® | Scoop.it

At Droidcon this past Friday, a prototype of the first bamboo smartphone, the ADzero, was revealed. The Android smartphone will be powered by a 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos 4 quad-core processor, the same one in the popular Samsung Galaxy S III. Basically, this is no low-performance novelty smartphone, but the real deal made with more sustainable materials.

The ADzero will feature a 4.5 inch display, 1 GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The operating system will either be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or the open-source AD Android Operating System (ADAOS). The latter is what the developers, AD Creative, have used to build the prototype's custom operating system.

Sustainable Technology: Our phones are depleting natural resources [INFOGRAPHIC]

Sustainable Technology: Our phones are depleting natural resources [INFOGRAPHIC] | scatol8® | Scoop.it
This infographic takes a look at this troubling technology trend, which is depleting the planet's supply of Rare Earth Elements.

Apple sold a record 5 million iPhones the first weekend the phone was on the market. And unlike in the iPhone’s early days, the latest Apple smartphones are not primarily being purchased by first time owners.

But did you ever stop to think about what happens to all those iPhone 3, 3GS, 4 and 4Ss now deemed out of date? While there are many recycling programs available, most smartphones are not efficiently thrown out.

Apple’s iPhones is far from the only culprit — most every smartphone, hard drive, hybrid car, satellite, MRI machine and GPS, along with dozens of other tech gadgets, are made from Rare Earth Elements.

This infographic takes a look at this troubling technology trend, which is depleting the planet’s supply of rare earth elements...

Evernote & Moleskine Merge Paper & Pixels in "Smart Notebook"

Evernote & Moleskine Merge Paper & Pixels in "Smart Notebook" | scatol8® | Scoop.it
Evernote signed a treaty with Moleskine Friday at the Evernote Trunk Conference, formally declaring a truce in its war on paper.

I don't know what it is with Moleskine, but even I can't deny their charm. It's an acceptable paperless enthusiast's sin, I'd say.
