In Harmony with the Site: New Forest House by PAD Studio

In Harmony with the Site: New Forest House by PAD Studio | scatol8® | Scoop.it

PAD studio have designed a house located in the New Forest National Park, United Kingdom.

The dwelling is set within an 18.5 acres, located within the New Forest National Park. The massing, form and orientation of the new building has been carefully conceived in order that the proposals minimise the impact on the site and its surroundings. The main dwelling and annex building both have low rise green roofs.

They are oriented to maximise solar gain and utilise ground source heat pump technology, and excavated material from the new basement and pool area has been re-used in the earth berming to provide a visual screen to the north and help to reduce the sound impact of the nearby dual carriageway.

The proposal also incorporates rain water harvesting, grey water recycling and a natural swimming pond to further increase biodiversity within the site...

Twitter Languages in London

Twitter Languages in London | scatol8® | Scoop.it

This map is a fantastic geovisualization that maps the spatial patterns of languages used on the social media platform Twitter.  This map was in part inspired by a Twitter map of Europe.  While most cities would be expected to be lingistically homogenous, but London's cosmopolitan nature and large pockets of immigrants.

The largest commercial office in Manchester has now become the highest scoring BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ building in the UK with a score of 95.32%.

Designed by 3DReid, The Co-operative Group’s new £115 million low-energy, highly sustainable headquarters brings their 3,500 staff under one roof in a spectacular 500,000 square foot building.

The building, known as 1 Angel Square, has been designed to deliver a 50 per cent reduction in energy consumption compared to The Co-operative’s current Manchester complex and an 80 per cent reduction in carbon. This will lead to operating costs being lowered by up to 30 per cent...
