At The Ballpark app will allow mobile uploads of MLB season-ticket packages - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
MLB Advanced Media today is releasing a significant update to its At The Ballpark mobile application, allowing season-ticket purchasers to upload and retrieve their entire ticket packages within the app.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

The MLB is going towards the right direction for selling tickets. They are continuously adding new ways to buy tickets and retrieve tickets. I learned that “At The Ballpark” is an app that is used on a mobile device to retrieve your tickets. Ticket holders are going to use this app more, because they only have to show their ticket package that they purchased during the beginning of the season. I found it extremely interesting on how they only used the app for 12 particular teams in the MLB. However, eventually it will be spread across all the teams in the MLB ticket process. I selected this article because its really interesting to see how different sport leagues are continuously coming out with new ideas and techniques to intrigue there fans more. Keeping up with modern day technology is a huge accomplishment for any sport, because in the modern day world everyone that can afford to go to games etc. has a phone and is constantly using it. This information will help me in the sports management because it another technique/idea that benefits the sport league. By adding new things to technology keeps them up to date with the technology.

Bruin’s ‘Advil moment’ leads to NHL deal - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

Bruin’s ‘Advil moment’ leads to NHL deal - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
Editor's note: This story is revised from the print edition.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

Just after one game Boston Bruins game a chief marker in the U.S for Pfizer consumer healthcare proposed the idea for a sponsorship with The NHL. The sponsorship is going to be with the brand ADVIL, and is also the main pain reliever for all NHL athletes. I found it extremely interesting after a hockey game that sponsorship deal came into place, however it was in discussion for about 4 months until it became official. Especially the fact that ADVIL was proposed as the main brand for pain reliever due to the fact that the Boston Bruins goalie played through significant pain is extraordinary. I selected this article because it’s amazing to see how sponsorship deals can happen. Just out of nowhere a proposal come up, and the sponsorship deal can be a very successful one. ADVIL is known everywhere as a pain reliever and now that the NHL will promote it even more will benefit both parties. This article is very beneficial to read, because it teaches a potential Sport Manager a lot. It shows how sponsorships, which are extremely important for any type of sport team, league or organization can happen in a blink of an eye.

Prem clubs frustrated over laces campaign

Prem clubs frustrated over laces campaign | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
Premier League clubs have voiced frustration with gay rights charity Stonewall, accusing it of launching a rainbow laces initiative against homophobia in the game without consulting them.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

Stonewall is doing a cause by giving the player in the premier league shoelaces to show support in the “Right Behind Gay Footballers campaign.” I learned that even though the league is frustrated with Stonewall for not telling them there actions in giving the players of the league the shoelaces’; its still shows their support and worldwide reach out to fans to support gay rights in sports. The Premier league is a very well respected soccer league around the world, so millions of people will think the actions taking place as a positive thing. I found interesting that the Arsenal FC manager, Arsene Wenger supports the idea of the shoelaces and showing their support to gay rights. Arsene Wenger is one of the most well respected soccer managers in the world. I selected this article because I love the Barclays premier league, and by seeing their small ideas/actions in order to overcome obstacles such as homophobia is very interesting. This will help me in the future because actions like this in such a big and successful sports league; shows how leagues, managers, athletes etc. really care about their fans and worldwide issues in general.

With no stadium debuts, MLS down at gate - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

With no stadium debuts, MLS down at gate - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
After posting record-setting attendance each of the previous two seasons, Major League Soccer has experienced a slight downturn in the first half of 2013.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

After reading the article I was surprised to see how the average stadium attendance for MLS games has dropped this year. However 5% drop rate isn’t that bad, because it’s still early in the season. Something that really interested me was how some of the MLS teams, for example LA Galaxy, still has a high attendance rate after the departure of their major superstar, David Beckham. I got some useful information from this article, because the president of the MLS isn’t worried about the 5% drop rate, because he realizes its early in the season. Also by fixing around the schedule a bit would change the attendance rate as well. Finally he also takes into consideration the stadiums that haven’t been renovated or constructed, and the superstars that retired have an impact on the average attendance. I chose this article because I really like soccer, and the MLS is becoming more popular every year because of the big investments. Soccer players from around the world are interested in playing soccer in the MLS before their retirement, and famous clubs like Manchester City are investing in teams and stadiums in the Unites States for the MLS. This information will help me in this sports industry because it shows me how important fans are, and how much they can impact a sport league.

Because of coming shift in gaming consoles, EA Sports ready with an extra ‘Madden’ rollout - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
EA Sports will essentially double its launch marketing efforts this year for the forthcoming “Madden NFL 25” video game, thanks to the arrival of the gaming industry console transition.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

EA really knows how to keep up with their fans. Many people across the United States play video games. After learning that their special Madden NFL 25 is due for release really surprises me. However, they finally realized that the new generation of systems are coming out which are, the Xbox one, and PlayStation 4. I found it very interesting that they’re charging only $10 for the upgrade of the game from the older version of the Xbox (Xbox 360) to the new Xbox that is due for release in November (Xbox one). Keeping up with one of the reasons why the sport industry is a big business is very important in order to make money and succeed. What EA is doing shows how they care about the fans, and that fan affiliation is very important to them. I selected the article because I like to play video games, and knowing that EA is keeping up with the new technology shows how they care about their fans. Finally the information in this article is important because it shows us how fan affiliation is important. Also that investing in merchandise is essential in order to make money and succeed in the sports industry.

Fox Sports signs Ford, Academy Sports, Pizza Hut to sponsor college football stadium tour - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

Fox Sports signs Ford, Academy Sports, Pizza Hut to sponsor college football stadium tour - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
Fox Sports has signed Ford, Academy Sports and Pizza Hut as charter sponsors for its “Fox College Saturday Tour” — a roadshow that will sit outside stadiums where Fox is broadcasting its national college football games this season.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

FOX Sports come up with brilliant ideas to satisfy their fans and be well known across the nation. The event “FOX College Saturday Tour” is a hit and generates a lot of revenue. However, their main focus is on satisfying their fans. Its great that they continuously look for more supporting sponsors, but keep their name as the main sponsor for the weekly event. It’s compared the ESPN’s version of “College Game Day.” Having similarities is good but FOX is also competing against ESPN in order to be the main Sport Broadcaster to host the event. I found it very interesting on how FOX Sports signed Ford, Academy Sports, and Pizza Hut as charter sponsors. Their idea of adding cut-ins to show their gratitude towards their passionate fans that attend the tour is tremendous. That shows a lot from FOX Sports on how they care for their fans. Reaching out to fans is an important aspect in the sport industry. The cut-ins will happen during the pre game show, so that the fans wont miss the game. I chose this article because it demonstrates a important aspect for successfulness in the sport industry. That aspect is clearly maintaining a good relationship with fans. Fan affiliations is what makes sport organizations triumph in the sport industry. This information will help me a lot in my future in sport management.

Report: FOX Sports Opposes Plan to Stage Winter World Cup in 2022

Report: FOX Sports Opposes Plan to Stage Winter World Cup in 2022 | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
FIFA will face an intercontinental fight if it attempts to move the 2022 FIFA World Cup from summer to winter. FOX Sports has joined England's Premier League in opposing FIFA president Sepp Blatter...
Daniel Gomez's insight:

Having the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is a awesome idea, but there are many obstacles that the president of FIFA will have to face. Qatar’s summers are too hot for soccer players to play in, and changing the world cup dates to the winter is a disastrous change. By changing the tournament to the winter it will disrupt soccer leagues all over the world, and more importantly TV networks as well. I learned that hosting such huge events and not planning them accordingly can really hurt the company and lead into huge problems.  The world cup is one of the most watched events in the world, and FOX sports are a leading broadcast network that shows it. Having FOX Sports arguing against the idea of switching the world cup to the winter is a terrible thing for and sport management industry. I found interesting the idea that Qatar was offering to make air-conditioned stadiums, and now they are backing away from their initial proposal. I selected this article because I always watch the world cup and find it very interesting to see where it will be hosted every 4 years, because one day I want to attend a world cup. The information I read is very important, because it shows how important the media is to sports industries. FIFA is in a big mess if they have networks that show their events going against their new idea. FOX Sports will probably win the argument, because so many other broadcasting stations will be on their side.

Full line of Pepsi beverages to get NFL push - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | SBJ Articles | Scoop.it
Pepsi is mounting what it’s calling its biggest NFL marketing offensive yet. For the first time, the company will link America’s biggest sports property with all of its Pepsi-branded beverages — Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Pepsi Next and Diet Pepsi.
Daniel Gomez's insight:

The Pepsi Company is making great marketing improvements. By leading the sponsorship in the 2014 Super Bowl will be a huge boost. Almost everyone in the United States watches the super bowl. Also by them trying to sponsor and make a deal with Bruno Mars is another great leap to success. If Bruno Mars sings in the halftime show, then Pepsi will be making a lot of money. I learned that marketing and sponsoring in sports is a very big thing. Marketing the right things to consumers is essential to make a lot of money and be very successful. The NFL has sponsorships and deals with many companies, but for example Pepsi they have one of the bigger sponsorships and its very strong. They generate a lot of money and by having Pepsi as a top sponsorship brings more and more fans to the NFL, and more importantly the Super Bowl. Also by having already a singer to do the halftime show, Bruno Mars, is another big deal that improves the income for the NFL. I found that very interesting, that they already announced their halftime show performer. Bruno Mars in my opinion is a very good singer and I’m sure a lot of people around the nation love him. I selected this article because its very interesting to read about the new deals and sponsorships the NFL is making with companies and especially for the Super Bowl. This information is very beneficial because it shows you how important marketing and sponsorships in the sports industry is. By not having good deals or marketing ideas in place will not generate a lot of money and eventually lead to an  unsuccessful business in the sport industry.

Major League Soccer’s negotiations for new broadcast agreements will begin this fall with Gary Stevenson, the newly hired president and managing director of MLS Business Ventures, “leading the charge,” said Commissioner Don Garber last week in...
Daniel Gomez's insight:

The MLS is growing at a rapid speed across America. Eventually it should be broadcasted around the world. Don Garbner is doing a tremendous job by finding new deals with television programs to broadcast the MLS games. I found it very interesting how he really wants to change the MLS in the media, by expanding its broadcasting networks around the globe. I selected this article because it has a lot of good and interesting information. Its amazing to learn how Garbner knows why the sports industry is such a big business because he is really focusing on the media attention and growth in the global markets. Media attention, and growth in global markets are two of the five major reasons why sport is a big business. The information I read in this article can help me in the sports industry because Im slowly learning how to expand and pay attention to the major components of managing a professional sport league.
